COFFINS sign to Relapse Records

Relapse Records is proud to announce the signing of COFFINS.

COFFINS is a three piece death / doom band from Tokyo, Japan that formed in 1996 and has previously released three full-length albums and numerous split releases. The band is currently writing for their fourth full-length and Relapse debut with plans to record later this year.

COFFINS will embark on their first-ever European tour this April alongside SOURVEIN and AGUIRRE as part of the “Doom Over Europe” tour. This tour will conclude with a performance as part of the sold-out Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, Netherlands. A listing of confirmed tour dates and cities can be found below.

Die unverwundbare Eisen-Schnecke in Apocalypse Now, die Entdeckung der Langsamkeit im Stahlgewitter, die verhaltene Intensität von erstarrender Lava. Als wollten die Bands des Hamburger DRONEBURG-Festivals die stilleren Momente kurz vor der Götterdämmerung zelebrieren, evoziert ihre Musik jenseits von Drone, Doom und Post-Metal monumentale Bilder von gefährlicher Regungslosigkeit und gedrosselter Urgewalt. Alles ist schwer und zäh und gewaltig.

Gemeinsam ist den zwölf, am letzten Aprilwochenende in Hamburg spielenden Bands vor allem eins: Die Verehrung der Gitarre als das wichtigste Instrument ihrer Beschwörungen und Abgesänge. Darum versteht sich DRONEBURG auch als eine Art Stammestreffen mit Gitarren-Workshops, Filmvorführungen und Vorträgen. Diverse assoziierte Labels und Poster-Artists haben zudem ihren Besuch avisiert. Als Hauptquartier dient das Lokal in der Maxbrauerallee 207, das mit den drei Veranstaltungsorten Astra Stube, Waagenbau (Sa.)und Fundbureau (Fr.), ein neues Bermuda-Dreieck bilden kann.

EYEHATEGOD "Live" DVD - Out on March 22nd

New Orleans sludge miscreants Eyehategod will release an official live DVD on March 22 via MVD. Simply titled Live, the 88-minute production features multi-camera footage from 2009 (Baltimore, MD) and 2010 (Cleveland, OH), with bonus clips from the last show of their 2010 European tour and videos never before released before on DVD. A perfect dose of Black Flag meets Black Sabbath in ragged, live glory.

Biography:

40 WATT SUN is the new music project of singer/guitarist/songwriter Patrick Walker, best known for his previous band, WARNING UK. 40 WATT SUN sees Patrick Walker accompanied by drummer/percussionist Christian Leitch, previously best known as the guitarist and founder-member of London-based band THE RIVER, and bass plaser William Spong. The music is characterised by distorted guitars, down-tempo rhythms and strong melodies, and by Patrick Walker's introspective lyrical themes and poignant vocals. Their debut album ‘The Inside Room’ was recorded over three days and nights at The Library Studio in London, produced entirely by the band and engineered and mixed by bassist William Spong. It features five new songs of highly original, melancholic, pained but yet sanguine material.

CATHEDRAL Announces Plans To Disband - Feb. 6, 2011

After a twenty-one-year career, British doom/stoner veterans CATHEDRAL have announce their "retirement" from the scene. The band will make its exit from the live arena at the end of this year and plans to record one final studio album to be released in 2012. Commented vocalist Lee Dorrian; "It's simply time for us to bow out. Twenty one years is a very long time and it's almost a miracle that we managed to come this far! "We've had a great time during CATHEDRAL's existence and it has literally been our life. It's just time to move on and leave our recorded legacy to linger". Since forming in 1990, CATHEDRAL has released nine studio albums and several EPs. A large part of their career was spent recording for Earache Records, debuting with the landmark 1991 doom metal classic "Forest of Equilibrium". This was followed by the seminal 1993 "Ethereal Mirror" album which was released by Columbia Records in America to large critical acclaim. More recently CATHEDRAL has continued to expand on its overall sound, releasing two albums for the Nuclear Blast label. Dorrian continues, "Our latest album, 'The Guessing Game', is exactly where we wanted to be after all this time. Staying in one place, being repetitive and predictable is something we wanted to avoid right from the off." CATHEDRAL recently reunited with the original lineup for their twentieth anniversary concert to perform their aforementioned debut in its entirety. They are scheduled to make several final live appearances 2011, including dates in Japan and at the Maryland Deathfest. More dates will follow, including a farewell London show later in the year. Dorrian concludes: "We would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude to those special people who have supported CATHEDRAL over the years. Gallow God - Debut EP “False Mystical Prose”

Gallow God originally was a two man project that was formed in 2009, although work on some of the music started as early as 2007. All of the Gallow God material has been recorded at the bands own studio which received a massive overhaul in December 2009. The music can best be described as Epic Doom Metal, but this is also influenced by Traditional Doom and elements of Funeral Doom Metal. Erneut steigen zwei Leipziger Bands in den Swimmingpool der Schaubühne. Zum musikalischen Badespaß laden diesmal MoUNt FujI und Unloved .

Wer MOuNt FUjI sind, weiß keiner so genau - bis auf die Freunde von MOuNt FUjI. Was MOuNt FUjI machen, hört man jedoch sofort - Musik, die von tief drinnen heraus will: schwer, ursprünglich und kraftvoll. Nennt es Stoner Rock, Psychedelic oder Doom. Nennt es Metal oder Grunge. In erster Linie ist es Musik aus Leidenschaft, mehr noch: aus innerer Notwendigkeit. MOuNt FUjI meinen es ernst und nehmen sich heraus, dabei Spaß zu haben. Vielleicht bist auch Du bald ein Freund von MOuNt FujI.

Den neuen Songs von Unloved hört man den Blick in den Abgrund durchaus an. Aber obgleich Existenzängste und Selbstzweifel ihre Spuren hinterließen, bricht aus allen Ecken und Kanten noch immer diese positive Kraft, die selbst auf dem sehr erwachsenen und streckenweise auch brachialen Material so unloved-typisch verträumt daherkommt, als spiele hier die Unschuld zwischen rauchenden Trümmern.
