Five years after the oppressive and bleak A Disease for the Ages MOURNING BELOVETH return with their strongest album yet, Formless in February 2013. Recorded with Chris Fielding in Foel studios, Formless sees a band return on top of their game, it is like no other Mourning Beloveth album and yet bears the trademarks that have made them one of the stand out bands in the doom underground for the last 20 years. The organic, heavy production lends an almost eerie calm to proceedings and yet has some of the bleakest acoustic passages ever heard. From the haunting opener Theories of Old Bones through the epic Ethics on the Precipice to the five minute bile filled Old Rope, Mourning Beloveth definitely know their strengths but this time round have worked on their weaknesses and in so doing have created an album that is challenging and yet remains forever rooted in the doom/death genre. Lyrically dealing with the inner turmoil each and everyone of us go through dealing with a world of poison, insanity and nightmares and yet scrapes at the surface of reality, a reality that nobody is sure of anymore. It is a journey from the cold sweating centre of the skull to the scratching edges of a murky world where every human element is boiled away.. A world where nobody seems to listen anymore, where all we seem to live for is pleasure, where all we will be remembered for is what we destroyed. These are brutal times.

THE FALL OF EVERY SEASON is a melancholic one-man band that has existed since 2004, formed and performed by Marius Strand, on vocals, instruments and programming. The vision behind the project has been clear from the beginning: Creating a mixture of heavy and mellow musical expression, based on the contrast of melodic death/doom metal and a fragile acoustic sound. In 2007 the critically acclaimed debut album From Below was released. Now, five years later, the time for a sophomore record has finally come. POMBAGIRA's 5th album "Maleficia Lamiah" out on 18th of March 2013

POMBAGIRA have emerged from having not played one show with this absolute masterpiece. Maleficia Lamiah, their 5th album in nearly as many years, evokes the late 60s and early 70s exploration by pioneers such as Pink Floyd, Caravan, Amon Duul 2, downtunes it and pulls it kicking and screaming into the new millenium.

Adventurous, utterly spell binding while being totally focussed in its determination to not comply too contemporary sensibilities, Pombagira have forged from the earth, air, water and fire Maleficia Lamiah. Rather than falling into obscurity by keeping with an obvious style Pombagira have sidestepped the doom tag, annihilated any drone association, trampled on any stoner association and formed a new down tuned psychedelic-rock style. And therefore the band make no apologies to the length or the journey the listener must undertake to become fully engrossed by their endeavours. Indeed this could be regarded as a specific request to those, not faint of heart, to surrender time to step onto Pombagira's dirt track. What can be assured is that it will be well worth the effort.

Alongside the stupendous nature of the release, the band have started to work with noted photographer Vic Singh, who not only did the front cover photo for Pink Floyd's Piper at the Gates of Dawn but worked with the Beatles for both film and photography.

OCEAN CHIEFis known in the doom underground for creating huge epics. Rarely do the songs stay under 10 minutes and often they’re twice as long. Sten (Swedish word for “stone”) is the band’s fourth full-length album and first done in collaboration with I HATE. It introduces a permanent keyboardist, and the songwriting has become more refined and varied, with a bigger emphasis placed on melodies. The four gargantuan tracks are hard and heavy as the bedrock but moments of respite are generously allowed along the way. Think of every song as a journey and take your time with Sten. If you do, you’ll end up with your forehead pressed against the ground at certain times and soaring high above the earth at others.

SUPERMACHINE's s/t album to be released in May 2013

In a tucked away forgotten tank factory in Southern New Hampshire – amidst a flurry of flying electrical sparks, and ungoverned volume knobs – SUPERMACHINE started to coalesce and take shape. Constructed from pieces brought back from the scrap heap, along with the acquisition of a newly added component to front the whole of the creation… the band has finally emerged and is now ready to take on the future. Lead with sludge-heavy hook laden riffs, monstrous stoic bass lines – that will not only loosen your fillings but might even cause a cavity or two – drums that will fill every pocket of that 70’s 3 piece leisure suit, and vocals that soar with melody and grit… Supermachine is in fact, a super machine.

With members that have an already established, built-in interwoven history, there is immediate chemistry between the entirety of the unit. Jay Fortin (Guitars), and Paul Jarvis (Bass), are both founding members of the band SCISSORFIGHT – though their history begins long before and continues on after that behemoth of a musical force emblazoned its sound in the cerebral caverns of all humanity. The connection these two share along with the bond they have with Mike “Mick” McNeil (Drums) who played with the two of them in Hemicuda – a precursor to Scissorfight – begins to describe a solid cohesive unit within the working loins of the Supermachine. The latest, and final piece of the band is fire-slingin’ vocalist David Nebbia. Nebbia comes into the fold after a chance encounter via email with Jay, where he inquired about the acquisition of some leather cuffs (don’t ask). The transaction also introduced the notion of Nebbia showing up to the tank factory to try his hand at fronting the newly established vehicle. The rest is for the world to witness. If you haven’t seen them yet, it’s only a matter of time before you hear them coming…

LORD DYING full-length debut coming this summer

Relapse Records announce the signing of Portland, OR riff worshippers LORD DYING.  Formed in 2010, LORD DYING (E. Olson-guitar/vocals, D. Capuano-bass, J. Reid-drums/vocals & C. Evans-guitar) are veterans of the heavy music scene, having played in bands such as Black Elk, Portals, Le Force, and Cremains. The band has so far released a sold out 7” and a sold self-titled tour EP. LORD DYING recorded their forthcoming full-length debut this past September with Sanford Parker (NACHTMYSTIUM, YOB, RWAKE). The album is currently being mixed and mastered and will see its release via Relapse Records this Summer.  

LORD DYING has built up a reputation with their ear-shattering live shows, having recently trekked across the US with label-mates RED FANG and BLACK TUSK in addition to being direct support for BLACK COBRA, WITCH MOUNTAIN and GAZA. WIHT: "The Harrowing of the North" LP out February 4th

WIHT are a Leeds-based trio who started out in March 2009 and whose epic, instrumental style straddles a spectrum of all things riff laden, fuzzed out, epic and psychedelic. Wiht’s first full album The Harrowing of The North is a two song, 33-minute concept piece taking influence thematically, from the subjugation of the North of England by William the Conqueror in the 11th century, it tells the troubled history of Doomsday-era Yorkshire. Track 1 ‘The Harrowing of The North’, contains 8 movements which follow the raids from their beginnings in 1069- when the King massacred Yorkshire’s people and destroyed the land ensuring it held no economic or cultural worth and remained subservient under his rule- to his remorseful deathbed nearly 20 years later. The second track is dedicated to outspoken chronicler ‘Orderic Vitalis’ who, though loyal to his king, was outraged at his cruelty and condemned him in his writings.

The band have played across the UK, supporting Brant Bjork and the Bros, Yob, Corrosion of Conformity, Humanfly, Khuda, Dopefight, A Forest of Stars and Conan.

Wiht called in Quits in March 2012, bowing out at the mighty Desertfest, playing alongside Corrosion of Conformity, Orange Goblin, Ancestors and Black Cobra to name a few. But the story was not finished, oh no. Indeed…Wiht had one song left, in steps Devouter Records, to release ‘The Harrowing of the North’ with the added, unrecorded track ‘End of the Reign’ and booooooom…..the rest is history.
