AGNES VEIN: Don't miss the album "Soulship" of the Greeks
Agnes Vein’s sound is a unique fusion of Epic Doom laments with the power of Hellenic Metal, echoing influences of such disparate artists as Bathory, Celtic Frost, Primordial, Pallbearer and Sunn O)).
Formed in Thessaloniki, Greece in 2001, Agnes Vein released their first EP “...Of Chaos and Law” in 2004. Countless gigs and support slots with the likes of Manilla Road, Brocas Helm, Solitude Aeturnus, Primordial, OM, Electric Wizard, Conan followed and in 2010 the trio releases their critically-lauded debut album “Duality” via Venerate Industries.
Now in 2013, Agnes Vein offers us their sophomore album entitled “Soulship”, which sees the band evolving their sound towards a darker, experimental direction, whilst retaining the same grim and direful essence presented in their early works. Throughout nearly 38 minutes Agnes Vein delivers an intriguing, disquieting concoction of monolithic, gloomy riffs played at sluggish tempos with some roaring tremolo picking and anguished screams.
“Soulship” was mastered by Alan Douches (Converge, Mastodon, Baroness, Sonic Youth, etc…) at West-West Side studios in New York, and reveals a band whose talents and creativity are in their prime.
