RISEN FROM THE DEPTH OF DOOM IV: OPHIS, DOOMED, MARCHE FUNÈBRE & more

Das diesjährige RFTDOD findet am 14. November statt und steht ganz im Zeichen des zähen und düsteren Zeitlupentodesmetalls. OPHIS konnten bereits 2012 unseren gemütlichen Doom-Keller zum Erbeben bringen und werden das auch an diesem dunklen Tag im November mit neuer Platte im Gepäck schaffen.
DOOMED beehren erstmalig die Messestadt und stellen das dritte Album "Our Ruin Silhouettes" vor, das abermals über die russische Death Doom-Kaderschmiede Solitude Productions veröffentlicht wurde. MARCHE FUNÈBRE aus Belgien und ET MORIEMUR aus Tschechien komplettieren dieses unheilvolle Quartett mit schweren Songs voller Melancholie und Hoffnungslosigkeit.

Biography:

OPHIS [greek: serpent] was founded in the German harbour city of Hamburg in late 2001, as an outlet for its members very own darker sides: an abyssic immersion of slow monolithic Doom Metal and raw, nihilistic and staggering old school Death Metal.
The band steadily became a solid institution among Doom-fans worldwide, collecting a loyal following by constantly playing live all over Europe. After the release of their debut album “Stream of Misery” in 2007, OPHIS toured with Pantheist and Skepticism. Their sophomore record “Withered Shades” (2010) was praised by the press as one of the best Death/Doom records of the past decade and even won the 2nd place in Metalstorm’s “best extreme Doom album award”, and followed by a tour alongside Ahab and Esoteric.
Recently, Cyclone Empire re-released the debut album and the first EP as a compilation entitled “Effigies of Desolation”, which was accompanied by yet another European tour, this time with Evoken.
OPHIS is musically rooted in the early 90s, yet NOT a retro band, as they push their musical progress onward with every release. This tension grants OPHIS their own niche in a scene dominated by trends, which the band always refused to follow. Lyrically OPHIS are – unusual for a Doom band – observers of society, sometimes even with political undertones. But also personal lyrics dealing with the inner struggles of the members can be found.

OPHIS: Hamburger Doom/Death-Band unterschreibt bei Cyclone Empire! | Hamburg based Doom/Death band signes with Cyclone Empire

OPHIS aus Hamburg sind eine der besten, extremsten und (immer noch) hoffnungsvollsten Doom-Bands in Deutschland und darüber hinaus. CYCLONE EMPIRE heißt diese Underground-Kultband mit ihrem düsteren, brachialen, tonnenschweren trostlosen und doch schönen (Funeral-)Doom/Death in ihrer kleinen Familie willkommen.
Im letzten Jahr hatten OPHIS schon das Doppel-CD-Re-Release/Compilation-Package ‘Effigies Of Desolation‘ via CYCLONE EMPIRE veröffentlicht. Ihr kommendes neues Album wird gerade aufgenommen, während ihr das hier lest und ein VÖ-Termin ist für Spätsommer/Herbst anvisiert.
Fans von SKEPTICISM, EVOKEN, PANTHEIST, ganz frühen ANATHEMA oder AHAB sollten sich schon mal auf was Großes vorbereiten.

BIOGRAPHY:

OPHIS [griechisch: Schlange] wurden Ende 2001 in der deutschen Hafenstadt Hamburg gegründet, als eine Art Ventil für die dunklen Seiten der Bandmitglieder: eine hässliche Verschmelzung von langsamem monolithischen Doom Metal und rohem, nihilistisch gefärbten und walzendem Death Metal.
Die Band hat sich über die Jahre zu einer unabdingbaren Institution der globalen Doomszene entwickelt und durch etliche Touren eine beachtliche Fanbase erspielt. Nach dem Release ihres Debütalbums “Stream of Misery” (2007) waren OPHIS mit Pantheist und Skepticism on the road. Der Nachfolger “Withered Shades” (2010) wurde von der Presse gar als seines der besten Death/Doom-Werke des Jahrzehnts erkohren und beispielsweise auf den zweiten Platz im Metalstorm-Magazin in der Kategorie “best extreme Doom album award” auf Platz 2 gevotet. Erneut folgte eine Tour, dieses Mal mit Ahab und Esoteric.
2013 haben dann Cyclone Empire das Debütalbum und die erste EP “Nostrae Mortis Signaculum” als Compilation unter dem Titel “Effigies of Desolation” als 2-CD-Re-Release veröffentlicht, was durch eine Europatour mit EVOKEN erneut supportet wurde.
OPHIS sind zwar musikalisch in den 90ern verwurzelt, sind dabei allerdings bei weitem keine Retroband, da sie ihren ureigenen Sound konstant und konsequent von Release zu Release weiterentwickeln. Dies beschert den Jungs so etwas wie eine eigene Nische in einer Szene, die durchaus dominiert ist von Trends…aber mit Trends hatten und haben OPHIS rein gar nichts am Hut! Textlich behandeln OPHIS durchaus für eine Doom-Band ungewöhnliche Themen, wenn sie sich als kritische Betrachter unserer Gesellschaft offenbaren, teils gar mit politischen Untertönen. Aber natürlich gibt es auch Songs, die sich mit den persönlichen und alltäglichen inneren Kämpfen der Bandmitglieder befassen.

“Nachdem wir bei der “Effigies of Desolation”-Compilation bereits mit CYCLONE EMPIRE zusammenarbeiteten, haben wir uns nun dazu entschlossen, auch weiterhin diesem Label treu zu bleiben. Wir fühlen, daß dies die richtige Entscheidung ist, auch wenn wir noch von einigen anderem, sehr coolen Labels Angebote vorliegen hatten und mit der Arbeit unseres bisherigen Labels zufrieden waren. Ihr seht: Irgendwas müssen CE sehr richtig gemacht haben!
Wir sind so glücklich, wie eine Doom-Band eben glücklich sein kann, unser kommendes drittes Album “ABHORRENCE IN OPULENCE” bei CYCLONE EMPIRE herausbringen zu können, da sie wie die großen, professionellen Companies arbeiten, aber dabei dennoch gleichzeitig den Ethos von hingebungsvollen Underground-Labels innehaben. “After we already worked with Cyclone Empire with our latest release, the “Effigies of Desolation” compilation, we decided to stick to this label. We had offers from several other companies, and pretty good ones, too. We were also satisfied with the label we had before. So you see: they did something very right!!
We are as happy as a Doom band can be to release our upcoming album “ABHORRENCE IN OPULENCE” on Cyclone Empire, because they have the modus operandi of big, professional companies, and at the same time the ethics of devoted underground labels. And that’s exactly what we need. Cheers on a great cooperation!”

EVOKEN: The dark legends of Funeral Doom Metal from USA - first time in Riga!!!

The American Funeral Doom legends, titans and effigies EVOKEN will play their only exclusive live show in the Baltic States at club "Melnā Piektdiena", Riga, Latvia on Thursday, June 27, 2013.

The band will perform the headline show in the "Antithesis" event, which is dedicated to promote the melancholic Doom metal music in Latvia. It will be a third event under the name of "Antithesis" and it is going to be the most spectacular in the series.

EVOKEN was founded in 1992, and since then has released 5 studio albums, with several of them considered to be the classic of the genre - "Embrace the Emptiness" (1998), "Quietus" (2001), "Antithesis of Light" (2005). Their latest album "Atra Mors" (2012), marks the bands return from hiatus. The fans of funeral doom place Evoken alongside such acts as Thergoton and Skepticism. Evoken is considered as one of the most influential bands of the genre and has influenced the entire generation of followers. The band will play in the Baltic States for the first time.

EVOKEN will be accompanied on stage by bands EVADNE (Spain), OPHIS

(Germany) and FRAILTY (Latvia).
