WINDHAND: Announce North American Tour!!!

Richmond psychedoom practitioners WINDHAND have revealed a three week run of headlining North American fall tour dates. The shows kick off on August 24th in Richmond, VA and include support from psychedelic Nashville outift, All Them Witches plus Jex Thoth and Ilsa on select dates. The band has also been hand picked as openers for the legendary SLEEP’s sold out show in Philadelphia on August 26th. 2014 has already seen the band traverse North America and Europe with Relapse label-mates Inter Arma and Indian including appearances at SXSW, Maryland Deathfest, and Roadburn. Windhand: Reveal US Tour Dates, and will be coming to Europe with INDIAN & INTER ARMA in April

Soul-cracking doom heavyweights WINDHAND will be making their rounds in the US surrounding their SXSW performance. After they punish the US with their heavier-than-heavy live show, the band will head to Europe for a tour with fellow Relapsers INDIAN and INTER ARMA.

WINDHAND and INTER ARMA announce European tour dates

WINDHAND and INTER ARMA have today both unveiled European tour dates - many of which will take place with each other. The two bands, both hailing from Richmond, Virginia, will play Roadburn festival alongside fellow Relapse artists True Widow, -(16)-, Indian, ASG, Locrian and Lord Dying.

WINDHAND DRUMMER, Ryan Wolfe, commented: "We're really excited to return to Europe and especially honored to be playing Roadburn and Heavy Days In Doomtown. We met some cool folks on our previous tour and looking forward to catching up with them. Plus playing with Inter Arma for a few weeks will be easy on my ears."

INTER ARMA guitarist, Trey Dalton added: "We've heard nothing but pretty incredible things about how awesome it can be touring in Europe, and needless to say we're very ready to experience that for ourselves. We're most definitely looking forward to playing at Roadburn as we're basically pals with half the bands playing, not to mention that we'll be with some of our best friends in Windhand for the majority of the tour. That being said, I think we're pretty excited about all of the shows. Most of us haven't done a lot of international traveling at all so this is a pretty righteous opportunity."

INTER ARMA will kick off their tour on April 4th in Antwerp, alongside Indian, and will meet up with WINDHAND to play Doom Over Leipzig festival, before the two bands continue on together throughout Europe. The last date the two bands will play together will be April 24, before INTER ARMA play a final show then head home and WINDHAND plough on, playing shows up through Scandinavia.

"The fourth edition of Doom over Leipzig is just around the corner and comes with an awesome and unexpected line up. Be sure to experience three days full of emotions and a journey through several variations of Doom and Metal. We used to start the festival with a relaxed, calm program on Thursday, f.i. with lectures or a documentary as you certainly remember – that’s simply not possible this year. We keep on celebrating the Doom from the first moment. You are going to see the following bands at this evening: Windhand, a quintet from US that just got honored from CVLT Nation for releasing the best Doom Metal LP in 2013, called “Soma”. Heading from the same village as Windhand we have Inter Arma a grim formation that knows perfectly how to bring Sludge and Black Metal in to an awesome symbiosis. Indian is the thrid in a row. This Chigaco based band is celebrating their 10th anniversary and putting the icing on the the cake by doing an European tour and having a stop at our festival.

We don’t really know where to start when we take a look at the line up of friday evening: First of all there is Circle from Finnland, a seven piece that brings out a combination of folk and ambient sounds out of twenty years of the bands history. In their huge discography list you’ll find an endless amount of studio and live recordings but also two soundtracks. One of them for the Finnish film-director Mika Taanila. As long in the business as the guys and gals in Circle are Sourvein a dirty Southern Sludge group heading from North Carolina, US. Their sound is typical and reminds of bands like Eyehategod. Graves at Sea, one of serveral goldies of the label Gilded Media is standing for the limbo at this evening. Based in Phoenix, Arizona, the band already visited Leipzig in 2013 – so we are more than happy to welcome them back to the right time at the right place. The grand final initiates 40 Watt Sun – we are honored to have this Funeral Doom legends on stage at our festival. Nobody can pass the voice of Patrick Walker without getting a thick lump in it’s throat abruptly. Clenched Doom Metal meets emotional vocals. At the end of Friday evening is no one less than Old Man Gloom – the DIY legends around ex-Isis frontman Aaron Turner. We could continue with the namedropping about this band, but this is not necessary because of Old Man Gloom’s very own, distinctive sound.

After a short break to take a breath, the line up for Saturday is now the turn: First in our introduction is Conan, the trio from Liverpool that is also touring to promote their new album “Blood Eagle” – we are excited! More Funeral Doom brings Esoteric to us. They’re from UK as well and play this monumental and powerful sound since two decades. Kongh actually known as a swedish doom three piece shrunk to a duo initiate the first part of finishing of the evening. Closely followed by The Body from Arkansas which put the final nail in the coffin of humanity in their music. The bearded duo which resides with their experimental Sludge sound on the well known label Thrill Jockey, hopefully ensures that after their show, the last spark of life will is gone from our audience." - MODERN OBSESSION BOOKING

WINDHAND (USA) und PILGRIM (USA) spielen heute in Leipzig - NICHT VERPASSEN!!!

Heute Abend macht die Europatour von WINDHAND und PILGRIM in Leipzig Halt, um Mitteldeutschland das Doomen zu lehren. Die zwei US-amerikanischen Bands werden von TOTEM SKIN und TENGIL aus Schweden unterstützt. Wer am heutigen Buß- und Bettag noch nichts vor hat, dem sei dringend ans Herz gelegt, sich dieses Konzert anzuschauen.

Zu Beginn dieses Jahres wurde Parker Chandler an den Sechssaiter von WINDHAND gestellt, dessen Band COUGH allen Liebhabern des Sludge/Doom Metal ein Begriff sein sollte. WINDHAND, die es erst seit 2008 gibt, haben es innerhalb kurzer Zeit geschafft, Relapse Records auf sich aufmerksam zu machen und eine Split mit COUGH (Refelections Of The Negative) sowie das aktuelle, zweite Vollzeitalbum namens "Soma" auf dem renomierten amerikanischen Plattenlabel herausgebracht. WINDHAND kombinieren schwere Riffs mit eingängigen Melodien, die nicht zufällig an Bands im Stil von ELECTRIC WIZARD erinnern. Nur das es hier wesentlich traditioneller und emotionaler zur Sache geht, woran vor allem der einmalige Gesang von Frontfrau Dorthia Cottrell schuld ist.

WINDHAND have announced a headlining tour through Europe this November. The Virginia-based psychedelic doom band will be heading out on the road with Pilgrim in support of their upcoming album, Soma, due out via Relapse Records on September 16th in the UK/World (September 17th in North America, September 13th in Germany/Benelux/Finland).

Speaking of the tour that will follow hot on the heels of the release of Soma, WINDHAND commented: "We're very excited to head to Europe this fall and couldn't be happier that we're going with our buddies Pilgrim."

WINDHAND were also recently confirmed to appear at the 2014 edition of the legendary Roadburn festival, alongside label mates INTER ARMA.

On Soma, Windhand successfully make syrupy slow, downtuned doom hooky and anthemic.  Propelled by singer Dorthia Cottrell’s beautifully haunting bellow, Windhand’s dual guitar attack sounds like the glorious misfit offspring of Black Sabbath and Nirvana. The album was recorded and mixed by the band’s own Garrett Morris at The Darkroom and mastered by James Plotkin in their hometown. INTER ARMA and WINDHAND confirmed for Roadburn Festival 2014

Following last week's announcement of Loop as the main headliner for Roadburn 2014, the festival is excited to report that Relapse Records artists WINDHAND and INTER ARMA have also been confirmed for next years event, set for April10 − 13, 2014 at the 013 venue in Tilburg, the Netherlands. 

Walter Hoeijmakers from Roadburn: "Windhand’s S/T was definitely THEE psych/doom album of 2012, while anticipation of the band's upcoming album on Relapse is reaching a crescendo that will continue to build throughout the year and culminate in their main stage set on Saturday, April 12 at Roadburn 2014. Inter Arma's "Sky Burial" is a serious contender for this year's Roadburn Festival-related album of the year. Both Windhand and Inter Arma seem poised to rank among the regal line of iconic Relapse bands, and Roadburn is proud to welcome both bands on Saturday, April 12 at the 013 venue in Tilburg, The Netherlands.”

Richmond, Virginia's WINDHAND cut their teeth worshipping at Iommi's school of a thousand riffs, fusing classic churning doom as smooth as melted chocolate with Electric Wizard-ish bong-cloud obscured psychedelia. Sparking your natural highness, the band locks into a mesmerizing sprawl of epic, doomic heaviness, a trancelike reverence that inspires lethargic, hypnotic head banging and is embellished with enough hazy psych to be a tripped-out soundtrack for some obscure war on drugs propaganda film. Meanwhile, vocalist Dorthia Cottrell's hellish howl beckons from the distance, swathed in distortion, transcending any earthly ideas of gender, and positioning the band firmly at the top of the pile of the current crop of female fronted metal outfits. 

Windhand will release “Soma”, their 2nd album on Relapse Records on September 13 in the Benelux, GAS and Finland and on September 16 in the UK and Europe. The album was recorded & mixed by the band's own Garrett Morris at The Darkroom & mastered by James Plotkin, in their hometown of Richmond, VA.

Also emerging (like Windhand) from the seemingly ever-fertile metal breeding grounds of Richmond, Virginia, INTER ARMA sports a sound that's difficult to pin down, as it continually changes and surprises with each passing album track. "Sky Burial" starts with a strong dose of the industrial infused black metal of "Volcano"-era Satyricon, then takes a decidedly Pink Floydian left turn for the next two tracks (the first is acoustic and the second of which culminates in an unexpectedly raucous blast of Cascadian black metal). They then introduce truly hellish sounding occult doom followed by caustic, repetitive noise rock in the vein of Unsane. They continue with epic, abrasive, majestic doom with vintage Gibby Haynes-style menacing vocals into another foreboding acoustic track and cap the album off with the title track, a noisy, doomy, mathy, blackened rock and roll experience that is rippling with evil and menace. Their live set will be a constantly evolving, emotionally devastating experience that is sure to leave us all uncomfortably numb.

WINDHAND Signs To Relapse Records

Relapse Records this week officially welcomes Richmond, Virginia’s masters of ethereal doom metal, WINDHAND, to the label’s roster, having signed the quintet for the release of their forthcoming LP.

Stated the members of WINDHAND in response to their joining forces with the Relapse horde, "We're all so honored to be in the company of so many amazing artists. To know that our next record will be alongside some of the albums that inspired us to play music is pretty incredible.” WINDHAND has begun laying down tracks for the to-be-named upcoming LP in their home studio, The Darkroom, where the outfit will record and mix the entire album, and deliver it to Relapse for a Fall 2013 release date. More details will be made available as the album nears release.
