A TREE OF SIGNS' album "Salt" to be released on the 17th of December

Inspired by the likes of BLACK SABBATH, BLOOD CEREMONY and JEX THOTH, Portugal’s A TREE OF SIGNS have crafted an impressive EP that successfully recaptures the magical spirit of the 70’s.

Utilising lumbering, fuzzed-out bass rumbles, chunky rhythms delivered with strong accent on crashing cymbals and some mournful vocals that sound like a wailing banshee, there’s an aura of mysticism around these four songs. That esoteric feeling lies largely in its message, conveyed through lyrics and proclamations based on Alchemical manuscripts, which will guide you through an occult ritual.

Salt is a rather enjoyable and intriguing release that will surely impress anyone with an interest in occult doom rock akin to BLOOD CEREMONY and JEX THOTH.

Born in 2008 and raised on rock in Morgårdshammar, Sweden, the four-piece MOTHER OF GOD cast off a lot of the retro ‘70s mentality of their countrymen in favor of a more modern approach.Well, 20 years more modern, anyway. MOTHER OF GOD no doubt have some appreciation for the finer things in ‘70s rock – there are beards to prove it – but musically they incorporate influences from grunge and the heavy grooves of the early ‘90s. Bands like SOUNDGARDEN and ALICE IN CHAINS mesh their downtrodden grunge melodies alongside classic inspiration drawn from BLACK SABBATH and LED ZEPPELIN.

These might sound like familiar elements – at least the names ring out – but MOTHER OF GOD bring their own emotional spin to their Small Stone debut, Anthropos, and never quite cooperate with what you think they’ll do next. The band has released two prior EPs – 2011’s Forging a New Path and their debut – and they recorded and mixed Anthropos in Borlänge with Erik Nerback, Chris Goosman mastered, and Sanna Albenius, Robin Gnista and Alexander vonWieding provided art and layout design.

AMENRA - Mass V coming up on the 30th of November 2012

Formed in the forsaken fields of West-Flanders Belgium, AMENRA has been conjuring unholy masses and paving their own headstrong way since 1999. Spreading their vision of a world that's out of touch with its past, present and future, they take their adepts through a world of unseen mystique. Their postmodern vision of music, existing of droning, repetitive chords alternated by gut-wrenching hauls can make an experienced listener renounce his definition of music, perhaps even his whole belief system. Amenra puts heart and soul into every note, word and image, and changes the course of people’s lives everywhere their path leads.

Recent history has shown an extremely confident and focused AMENRA. Besides touring on their own and with Neurosis, the band has been branching out and taking modest steps onto what has previously been virgin territory to them with an acoustic record, a book which vulnerably offers their heart and inspiration, and various art exhibitions. AMENRA forges their path while constantly gaining followers, members of the Church Of Ra, a sect, now thousands in numbers.

AMENRA's confounding and compelling sound that mixes surrealist melody and warped subtleties with churning rhythms, pummeling riffs and crushing dynamics stands on it's own. HANGING GARDEN: 3rd full-length "At Every Door" will sweet dark winter days in early 2013

HANGING GARDEN aren’t new to the Scandinavian atmospheric and heavy music scene. Being around since 2004 and having released two albums for Spikefarm Records – Inherit The Eden (2004) and Teotwawki (2009) – the Finnish group already introduced their view on depressive and emotional disturbing music that is based on the dualism of beauty and harshness. With At Every Door the sextet discovers an even more accentuated and distinctive mix of different genres including doom influences, melodic death, post metal and post rock as well as acoustic and folk quotations.

The third album marks a new start for HANGING GARDEN, because At Every Door is the first output with new singer Toni Toivonen, drummer Antti Ruokola and Jussi Kirves on bass guitar. And of course it is bands first record for LIFEFORCE RECORDS. The Finns do not follow trends and defy conventions. At Every Door is an apocalyptic view on the world dominated by humans and a balefully future. Even without noticeable velocity HANGING GARDEN create lasting impressive contrasts that affect their listeners in the innermost. There are hints of optimism, but overall listeners will undergo depressive and less confident music in between Cult of Luna and Sigur Ros.

When it comes to lyrical themes, Hanging Garden has always been about dystopic visions of the ouroborean fate that quite likely awaits man. Before, Matti Reinola was mostly responsible for the lyrics, but on this album they were mostly done by Toni."

KONGH - Cover of new full-length album revealed

... which is gonna entitled Sole Creation. The album will be coming to shops on the 5th of February in Europe and 19th February in North Amercia. It will get released by Agonia Records on CD/LP/Digital.

Sole Creation - the 3rd album from the doom metal trio - will consist of 4 new tracks and 45 minutes of music, with a guest appearance of John Doe from Craft. The album was recorded at eknikkompaniet (Vetlanda, Sweden) by Peter Lundin; mixed and mastered by Magnus Lindberg of Cult Of Luna fame. KONGH's front-man, David Johansson, commented:

"After a very long time of hard work, this album is finally ready for release. We couldn't be more happy with the way it turned out and I really think it is the best KONGH material so far. For our old fans, I am pretty sure it will be well worth the wait and I also think it holds great potential to satisfy a bunch of new listeners. MEMORY GARDEN have just finished the recordings for their yet untitled new album which is now in the hands of Dan Swanö for mixing purposes. Comments the band:

ARKHAM WITCH is a name that should be already familiar to the old school heavy metal and doom fans, especially those into THE LAMP OF THOTH, the previous band of the vocalist Simon and drummer Emily. On their sophomore album the Brits serve one ridiculously catchy "hit" after another. Their influences are pretty obvious: DEEP SWITCH, HELL, WITCHFINDER GENERAL, JUDAS PRIEST, PENTAGRAM, SAINT VITUS, MANILLA ROAD, CIRITH UNGOL... but at the same time it's not possible to mistake them for any other band (except for TLoT perhaps), as their personality shines strongly through their music and attitude. It's straightforward doom and NWOBHM laden traditional metal, occult, but with a tinge of humor, with these trademark bard/brigand type vocals of Simon. And if it makes you do weird moves and speak in strange tongues, you are not alone... you've just joined the Legions of the Deep!

NEUROSIS- "Honor Found In Decay" out now worldwide

NEUROSIS’ anticipated tenth studio album, Honor Found In Decay, is available worldwide this week via their own label, Neurot Recordings. Both the standard jewel case CD and limited edition Stoughton gatefold sleeve CD versions of the disc are available along with poster and shirt packages, direct from the Neurosis store.

The LP version of Honor Found In Decay will be released via Neurot/Relapse in the coming weeks with specific details to be announced shortly.

The opening track to Honor Found In Decay, the monolithic “We All Rage In Gold, ” is streaming via VICE Magazine’s music channel, Noisey, and the second track “At The Well,” is playing at National Public Radio.

In just over two weeks, NEUROSIS will converge in Oakland, California to crush their native Bay Area audiences with a special one-off release show for Honor Found In Decay. This incredible performance will broadcast the material from the new album for the very first time to live audiences, with support from special guest openers Voivod and YOB. Following the release show they’ll perform at two special UK concerts; first at ATP’s Nightmare Before Christmas curated by Steve Albini’s band Shellac, followed by a concert in London with the mighty Godflesh. Additional live performances will continue to be announced in the months ahead.

KYLESA "From the Vaults Vol. I" coming on 16th of November 2012

It is hard to believe that KYLESA found the time to come up with anything new, as the band from Savannah, Georgia has been on the road nearly every minute since the release of fourth full-length “Spiral Shadow” (2010). Yet they did and nobody is able to explain it better than mastermind Philipp Cope: “This project has been a labor of love”, tells the guitarist, singer and producer. “We have spent over a year going through old songs, covers, etc. and collected those we felt went well together; remixing and finishing them up. We didn't want to release something just thrown together so we put a lot of thought and time into it. I am really happy about how this came together. I think it is a good representation of KYLESA's different styles from early on to present day”. These words help to explain why “From the Vaults Vol. I” sounds at the same time diverse and fresh as well as concise and coherent. A permeating feeling of togetherness unites with seeming ease rare and previously unreleased tracks from former recording sessions, alternate versions of well beloved songs and even a brand new track. KYLESA seem to take a step back from the hypnotically dense and passionately burning previous release “Spiral Shadow”, which was enthusiastically received by critics and fans alike. With “From the Vaults Vol. I” the Americans lay bare the roots of their unique sound in crust punk, psychedelic and stoner rock as well as sludge metal. For example KYLESA cited NEUROSIS, KYUSS, BLACK SABBATH and early PINK FLOYD as influences for debut album “Kylesa” (2002). Therefore it appears only logical that the latter British prog-rock legend is honoured with a rare cover version of “Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun”. As an offering between two albums “From the Vaults Vol. I” by far excels usual compilations. This gift is more than just another collection of oddities that will make you urgently wish for Vol. II. Tune in, listen up and space out!
