Heute Abend geben SAINT VITUS den Startschuss für ihre intensive Europatour anlässlich ihres 35-jährigen Bandjubiläums ab! Um dieses großartige Ereignis gebührend zu feiern, spielen die Urväter des US-amerikanischen Doom Metal alle Songs von "Born Too Late", dem Lieblingsalbum der Fans, welches im Jahr 1986 erstmals veröffentlicht wurde. Die Show wird mit vielen weiteren Klassikern die richtige Würze verliehen.

SAINT VITUS werden von den britischen Doomern ORANGE GOBLIN begleitet. Der doomige Roadtrip beginnt heute in der wunderschönen Stadt Colmar in Frankreich und wird quer durch Europa rocken, bis er am 15. SAINT VITUS kick off their extensive European tour in celebration of the band’s 35th anniversary today! To honour this grand occasion, the godfathers of American Doom Metal will perform all songs from the fan-favourite "Born Too Late" album (originally released in 1986) as part of their show peppered with a host of classic hits.

SAINT VITUS will be joined by British doomsters ORANGE GOBLIN. This doomed roadtrip starts today in the beautiful Alsacian city of Colmar (FR) at Le Grillen and continues to rock Europe heavily until a final stop at the Hammer of Doom Festival in Würzburg, Germany on November 15th. Unser Resümee zum DOOM OVER LEIPZIG 2014 lautet ganz eindeutig: Top Bands an einmaligem Veranstaltungsort und tolle Stimmung! Wenn man die Entwicklung des Leipziger Festivals betrachtet, hat es sich zu einem Doom-Event der Superlative gemausert. Dieses Jahr warteten die Veranstalter mit den Genre-Größen ESOTERIC, WINDHAND, INDIAN, CONAN und KONGH auf, die allesamt und dem guten Klang im ehrwürdigen UT Connewitz sei Dank, ein Doom-Brett nach dem anderen ablieferten.

Auch den Sludge-Jüngern wurde die volle Eyehategod-Kante mit GRAVES AT SEA und SOURVEIN geboten, in deren Folge nicht wenige Gäste entzückt grinsend herumliefen. Maximal melancholisch gruben sich die akustischen Stücke von 40 WATT SUN in die Herzschmerz- und Seelenleid-geprüften Publikumsherzen. Kein geringerer als Ex-WARNINGs Patrick Walker überzeugte mit seinen zutiefst berührenden Stücken. Auch wenn ich an der einen oder anderen Stelle die verzerrte Gitarre vermisste, gab es das ersehnte "Footprints" von WARNING noch als Sahnehäubchen oben drauf.

THE BODY sorgte für die passende Drone-Note und CIRCLE sowohl für das optische und tonale Überraschungsmoment im Festival-Billing. Man stelle sich den Frontmann mit Addidas-Trainingsanzug, Nieten-Armgürtel und gestochenen Heavy-Vocals vor, dazu die entsprechenden Gitarrenriffs, Hamond-Orgel-Attacken en masse und eine mit homoerotischen Einlagen durchzogene Performance, dass kein Auge trocken blieb. Musikalisch tanzten CIRCLE klar aus der Festival-Reihe, waren aber auch nach dem äußerst unterhaltsamen Auftritt in aller Munde.

OLD MAN GLOOM begeisterte alle Fans von Riffs wie GODFLESH sie seiner Zeit spielten. Nur bei INTER ARMA fiel es mir schwer, Gefallen an der zuweilen anstrengend Schwarzmetall-lastigen Musik zu finden. Das war aber bei der Menge an hochkarätigen Bands an allen drei Tagen zu verschmerzen und ich maximal zerdoomt.

Warum das UT Connewitz so ein einmaliger Veranstaltungsort ist? Fragt einfach bei NEUROSIS nach, die während jeder Europatour zwei Konzerte auf der Bühne im ältesten Lichtspielkino Deutschlands geben. Oder Jon von CONAN, der es mir kurz, bündig und auf den Punkt ins Ohr flüsterte: "What an awesome venue!" Recht hat er. Ich freue mich schon auf das nächste Jahr wenn es wieder heißt: DOOM OVER LEIPZIG!

ANCIIENTS: EU European Spring Tour starts next week. Canadian summer headlining tour with BLACK COBRA and BLACK WIZARD announced!

Vancouver's critically-acclaimed Hard Rock quartet ANCIIENTS has announced a Canadian summer headlining tour. The Bravewords.com sponsored tour begins on June 17 in Vancouver, BC and runs for six weeks from coast to coast. The tour also includes BLACK COBRA and BLACK WIZARD. The JUNO-nominated band is currently preparing for their first ever European tour, which kicks off at Roadburn Festival on April 10th. ANCIIENTS will tour across Europe alongside North Carolina's heavy rockers ASG (featuring members of WILDLIGHTS).

TORCHE mastermind Steve Brooks and his revived original band FLOOR are now premiering a new track of their forthcoming second full-length "Oblation". The cult stoner rockers officially present "Trick Scene" via their exclusive media partner The Onion A.V. Club!

FLOOR are back. The trio formed in 1992 achieved legendary status with only one full-length, their self-titled debut album "Floor" (2002) and despite splitting two years later. Their first line-up consisted of guitarist and vocalist Steve Brooks, Anthony Vialon on guitar and bass, and drummer Betty Monteavaro. The latter was replaced by Jeff Sousa in 1993, while Brooks and Vialon dropped the bass in favour of two low-tuned guitars. This line-up released several cult vinyl 7" EPs until a first break-up in 1996. The guitarists returned with Henry Wilson on drums for one show in 1997. Following hard on the heels of KYUSS, FLOOR are brothers in spirit to the desert rock feeling of shimmering heat, the pound and stomp of heavy engines, and a burning taste of diesel in the air. After breaking up again, Steve Brooks moved on and formed TORCHE with massive success. Yet the guitarist and singer still agreed to a reunion tour in 2010 to celebrate the release of "Below & Beyond", which encompassed the trio’s complete material until that point in an 8-CD/10-LP box set. Heavily enjoying the experience and further fuelled by the exponentially grown following during their hiatus, FLOOR decided to record a new album. Now "Oblation" picks up where "Floor" left off more than ten years ago. Adding a dose of doom and a dash of drone, the new album crushes with a powerful production. CONVERGE guitarist Kurt Ballou mixed the album at GodCity Studios (TORCHE, KVELERTAK, HIGH ON FIRE) and the mastering was done by Alan Douches (BARONESS, BLACK TUSK, MOTÖRHEAD). Lean back, crank up and sacrifice to the gods of stoner rock with this mighty "Oblation".

The phoenix of classical myth was considered to be a creature of great beauty. Bursting into flames at the end of its life cycle, the bird would be reborn out of the ashes of its predecessor. HARK share a similar fate as the trio is spawned from the remnants of celebrated British heavy rockers TAINT. The creative hand of frontman Jimbob Isaac can be clearly felt throughout HARK's fantastic debut album "Crystalline". Angular riffing, pounding rhythms, and dually melodic and his unrelentingly ferocious vocals lead to galloping passages that show the maturity of a band far more honed than expected from a debut. The Welsh did not leave any detail to chance, but carefully crafted music, lyrics and visuals into an all encompassing concept. This diligence includes having their first full-length mixed by Kurt Ballou of CONVERGE fame (KVELERTAK, TORCHE, ISIS), who added a powerful yet crystal clear production to HARK's unique sound. The artwork was personally designed and drawn by Jimbob Isaac, who is not just known as an outstanding musician but also working as an acclaimed graphic artist. "Crystalline" furthermore features guest vocals from Neil Fallon (CLUTCH) on the stunning track "Clear Light of....". HARK will literally rock the world with this release. ASG have confirmed a full European tour for this Spring. The North Carolinian heavy rockers will be joined on the road by Canada's Anciients. For tourposter see below.

The dates are in addition to the already-announced appearances at Roadburn festival in Tilburg, The Netherlands and Desert Fest in London, UK, where the tour will end.

Vocalist/guitarist, Jason Shi, commented: "The fellas and I are real excited to embark on another transatlantic rock voyage with Anciients! Should be good times and great shows! Wrapping up the tour in London for Desert Fest is going to be a real treat!"

This will be the first European outing for ASG since the release of last year's album, Blood Drive. The 12 track album was produced by Matt Hyde (Slayer, Fu Manchu) and released to broad critical acclaim. The striking artwork for the album was created by Malleus, an Italian trio who have previously been responsible for pieces for High on Fire, Swans and The Flaming Lips. In November, ASG unveiled the video for the track Scrappy's Trip, which featured live footage from a show in their hometown of Wilmington, NC. Watch the video here.

HARK unveil cover art for 'Crystalline', which will be released worldwide in March 2014!

Welsh heavy rock power-trio HARK have finished recording their forthcoming Season of Mist debut, entitled ‘Crystalline’. The album was recorded at Monnow Valley Studios in Wales (BLACK SABBATH, RUSH, JUDAS PRIEST, PORTISHEAD), and mixed by CONVERGE guitarist Kurt Ballou (CONVERGE, HIGH ON FIRE, KVELERTAK, YOUNG WIDOWS), and will hit the stores on March 14th in Germany and the Benelux, March 17th in the UK, France, and the rest of Europe, and March 18th in North America. HARK has already released the 'Mythopoeia' 7” single, which they managed to sell out on tours with RED FANG and CLUTCH.

The Welsh progressive-power-sludge trio carry TAINT's torch forward, passed on from their legacy that began in 1994. With fresh chops and almighty riff power, HARK continue to fuse punk attack with Sabbathian dirge, and decorate post-whatever angularities with classic rock flourish. While Isaac's vocals expand on his tried and tested palette, his lyrics continue to shatter prose with bleak metaphor and acerbic spittle. Made of the former WHYTELEAF rhythm section Nikolai Ribnikov and Simon Bonwick, the HARK engine bring an OCD approach to song craft, and endlessly creative pummel. Their dynamic chops and blood lust for riffs meld with Isaac's honed and equally determined musical vision.

Regarding the recording of ‘Crystalline’, main man Jimbob Isaac stated: "Fingers to the bone. That has been one of our mottos since HARK's inception, and it carried us through to the recording studio. Long days, little sleep and grim determination made this record the beast that we believe it to be. We pushed ourselves in all kinds of ways, and that commitment resonates throughout. We're having fun biding our time, but there's only so long you can keep a bull in its pen."

KYLESA recently announced a winter Australian/European headlining tour

Critically-acclaimed, genre-defying southern quintet KYLESA has seen the release of a new music video for the track "Low Tide", off their latest album, 'Ultraviolet'. The video, directed by Brodie Rush is streaming now, at Noisey.

KYLESA recently announced a winter Australian/European headlining tour. The tour features KYLESA's first trek down-under since playing the legendary Soundwaves Festival, which kicks off December 7th in Perth. Support on a special tour date in Brisbane comes from PHILM (featuring Dave Lombardo) and EAGLE TWIN. Following the Australian dates, KYLESA's European tour kicks off January 1st in the Czech Republic, and will see the band travel for a month before ending in Germany. ANCIIENTS announce Roadburn 2014 Performance!

Vancouver's ANCIIENTS have announced an appearance as part of next year's Roadburn Festival. The band has been slated to play on Thursday, April 10th in Tilburg, NL. Ticket pre-sales for the Festival will be available on Oct. 1st, at the official Roadburn Festival website.

ANCIIENTS will join SEPULTURA on their U.S. tour in November. ANCIIENTS will join the SEPULTURA tour on November 8th, and continue through the remainder of dates. The tour will also see ANCIIENTS play alongside UNEARTH and KATAKLYSM. A new confirmed list of tour dates can be found below.

ANCIIENTS also recently announced a new North American tour alongside TESSERACT and SCALE THE SUMMIT. The "Altered State North America 2013" tour is scheduled to start on Thursday, October 10th, in Edmonton, AB and will run through the United States and Canada before ending on October 29th.

ANCIIENTS are touring in support of their debut album, 'Heart of Oak'. The critically-acclaimed record is streaming here, and available now across several formats. The band was recently showcased as the featured artist in the latest installment of "Converse x Decibel". A mini-documentary about how the vast woodlands  and epic mountain ranges of British Columbia influence the band's elaborate and progressive songs is streaming here.

SAINT VITUS stream unreleased track!!!

Heavy/Doom metal progenitors SAINT VITUS are streaming one of the bonus tracks from their forthcoming reissue of 'C.O.D.' The bonus track, titled "The Chameleon" is streaming now at Pitchfork.

Regarding the unreleased track, guitarist Dave Chandler said, "I sent our U.S. label (at the time ) the tracks “The Chameleon” and “To Breed A Soldier” that I wrote with Christian (Linderson). The label did not like the direction the album was going and that really pissed us off. I scrapped everything I was working on and told Christian that things were not working out, so he left and went back home to Sweden.

The two bonus songs on the reissue weren't actually written for the C.O.D. Both were written after C.O.D. was released, and were intended to be demo tracks for the next SAINT VITUS album. As they were the only other recordings from the era with Christian,  we decided to put them out on the C.O.D. re-issue" 

The re-issues of 'COD' and ‘Die Healing’ will be available on CD, limited-edition double LP, and colored vinyl gatefold LPs. 'Remastered and enhanced with two previously unreleased bonus tracks, ‘C.O.D.’ features COUNT RAVEN’s Christian Linderson on vocals, while ‘Die Healing’ sees original SAINT VITUS singer Scott Reagers return to the mic. All formats can be pre-ordered here and are scheduled to be released this Friday, August 16th across the world (August 20th in North America).

GOG: Dronelord Michael Bjella releases new album on August 30th

The southwestern state of Arizona is best known for its desert landscapes and grand canyons. Yet GOG mastermind Michael Bjella paints a very different picture of his native homeland with "Ironworks". Recorded in a late 19th century blacksmith shop, where several members of his own close family toiled, GOG crafts a subversive ode to the death of the American dream using source sounds and atmosphere. This is the sound of physical labour, of blood, sweat, and tears. Metal rings on metal, shaping flesh and bone in the eternal pulse of the anvil and the searing flames of the furnace. "Ironworks" gives enslavement through capitalism a sinister soundtrack. With GOG, Michael Bjella has established himself as a major artist in the ambient field. Releases such as "Heavy Fierce Brightness: Spells of the Sun" have let to the project being described as "blackened psychedelic doomdrift dronelords". Collaborations with renowned artists in the field included splits like "Malpais" with WILLIAM FOWLER COLLINS, or "Fruition of the Occult" with APPARITIA. Now, Michael Bjella enters a new dimension of sound with "Ironworks", which is probably his most deeply personal yet also highly political musical statement so far. Initially issued as a vinyl-only release at the end of 2012, “Ironworks” has been repackaged in lavish digipak format and is easily one of the best dark ambient releases in years!

SAINT VITUS embark on European Tour today!

Doom icons SAINT VITUS have announced an extensive European tour. Starting today on March 5th in Köln, Germany, the tour continues throughout this month until ending in Norway at the prestigious Inferno Festival on March 30th.  The US legends will be joined by MOS GENERATOR. The band is touring in support of their latest album 'Lillie: F-65'. This critically acclaimed masterpiece, their first full-length in 17 years, reunites the unmistakable guitar playing of co-founder Dave Chandler with the deeply resonate vocals of hard rock legend Scott “Wino” Weinrich.

Season Of Mist: KYLESA announce new album

US quintet KYLESA have announced the title and release date of their forthcoming album. One of the most anticipated hard rock releases of 2013 and the follow-up to their critically-acclaimed album ‘Spiral Shadow’, 'Ultraviolet' will hit the stores on May 24^th (May 28^th in North America). 

"Unspoken", a new song from the eleven-track album, is available now for people who subscribe to the Season of Mist newsletter.

“Whereas ‘Spiral Shadow’ was a warm album suggesting concepts of hope, ‘Ultraviolet’ is a bit colder and darker”, explains songwriter/guitar player Laura Pleasants. “All of our studio albums have their own unique identity and we've always been a band who strives for something different than what current fads suggest. With ‘Ultraviolet’, we took a step inward and wrote music that we felt we had to write; this album centers around the multiple themes of loss and you can feel it in the music. Everyone goes through it during their lifetime and this record reflects that experience.”

KYLESA recorded 'Ultraviolet' at The Jam Room in Columbia, South Carolina with the band's guitar player/songwriter and sought-after producer, Phillip Cope (BARONESS, BLACK TUSK) once again overseeing production.

KYLESA released a rarities collection in November titled ‘From The Vaults, Vol. 1’, which featured unreleased, new and alternate versions of songs spanning the band's catalog as well as one new song titled "End Truth." Cope and Pleasants spent over a year going through their archives preparing the release. 

The band's most recent studio album, ‘Spiral Shadow’, had the highest metal/hard rock entry on the Village Voice's 2010 Pazz & Jop album poll, led Pitchfork to say "KYLESA would be a household name" following the release and landed the band on the cover of Terrorizer as well as album of the month accolades from Metal Hammer, Rock Sound and Visions Magazines. In 2011, KYLESA became the first metal band to perform on Last Call with Carson Daly. 

KYLESA will return to the road in May with more details forthcoming.

Support will come from AUDREY HORNE on the first eight shows, and from SAHG for the rest of the tour.
