Relaps Records: LOCRIAN complete recordings

Esoteric, experimental artisan’s LOCRIAN have completed recording their highly anticipated Relapse Records full-length debut. The as-of-yet-titled album was recorded by Greg Norman (Pelican, Russian, Circles, Serena Maneesh) at Steve Albini’s Electrical Audio Studios in Chicago, IL and mastered by Jason Ward at Chicago Mastering Service.   

A two-part concept album inspired by the band’s love for prog-rock progenitors Genesis, Yes & King Crimson, this is sure to be the group’s most ambitious recordings to date. A summer 2013 release via Relapse is expected with more details to be announced shortly.

In addition, LOCRIAN has announced their first live rituals in almost two years. The trio will be performing at 35 Denton Fest on March 10th in Denton, TX alongside Prurient, Sleep, Eyehategod and many more notable acts, followed by a pair of special shows in Kansas City, MO and their hometown of Chicago. 

LOCRIAN, located in Chicago, IL and Baltimore, MD, has released over 20 recordings on an eclectic array of labels in their relatively short but prolific career, including a recent reissue of The Clearing / The Final Epoch and New Dominions, a split with label-mates Horseback. Season Of Mist: KYLESA announce new album

US quintet KYLESA have announced the title and release date of their forthcoming album. One of the most anticipated hard rock releases of 2013 and the follow-up to their critically-acclaimed album ‘Spiral Shadow’, 'Ultraviolet' will hit the stores on May 24^th (May 28^th in North America). 

"Unspoken", a new song from the eleven-track album, is available now for people who subscribe to the Season of Mist newsletter.

“Whereas ‘Spiral Shadow’ was a warm album suggesting concepts of hope, ‘Ultraviolet’ is a bit colder and darker”, explains songwriter/guitar player Laura Pleasants. “All of our studio albums have their own unique identity and we've always been a band who strives for something different than what current fads suggest. With ‘Ultraviolet’, we took a step inward and wrote music that we felt we had to write; this album centers around the multiple themes of loss and you can feel it in the music. Everyone goes through it during their lifetime and this record reflects that experience.”

KYLESA recorded 'Ultraviolet' at The Jam Room in Columbia, South Carolina with the band's guitar player/songwriter and sought-after producer, Phillip Cope (BARONESS, BLACK TUSK) once again overseeing production.

KYLESA released a rarities collection in November titled ‘From The Vaults, Vol. 1’, which featured unreleased, new and alternate versions of songs spanning the band's catalog as well as one new song titled "End Truth." Cope and Pleasants spent over a year going through their archives preparing the release. 

The band's most recent studio album, ‘Spiral Shadow’, had the highest metal/hard rock entry on the Village Voice's 2010 Pazz & Jop album poll, led Pitchfork to say "KYLESA would be a household name" following the release and landed the band on the cover of Terrorizer as well as album of the month accolades from Metal Hammer, Rock Sound and Visions Magazines. In 2011, KYLESA became the first metal band to perform on Last Call with Carson Daly. 

KYLESA will return to the road in May with more details forthcoming.

Named after one of Franz Kafka's short stories, Odradek Room is an atmospheric and progressive death-doom band with post-rock leanings from Mariupol, Ukraine. Initially formed in 2008 under the name 'Shards of Silence', the past five years has given the band ample time to develop and refine their sound for their debut album 'Bardo. Relative Reality.' Creating dynamic and profound music, rich in tempo and mood variation, Odradek Room has crafted an extremely strong debut which perfectly shows the duality between the aggressive and melancholic sides of death-doom combining slow plodding riffs, soaring emotional melodies, post-rock leanings, and a psychedelic touch to create a rich canvas of sonic majesty. CULTURA TRES: New album details and European tour dates

The Venezuelan psychedelic sludge act CULTURA TRES will release their new album entitled “Rezando Al Miedo” on May 15^th 2013. The cover artwork for the band’s third full-length is taken from the painting “Day of Judgment” by the remarkably talented artist Damian Michaels.

"The music expresses lives of slavery, religious mania and negative influences from South America. ... Some sludge, thrash and rock solos on offere here. Maybe SEPULTURA would be the same if they had found sludge?" - Doom Metal Front

The eight songs orchestrate to the detail the emotions of every word sang, yet this isn't a record that comes to tell a full story. Instrumental parts often let the thoughts of the listener ask their own questions, give their own answers, explore their own fears.....

The album was produced, mixed and mastered by Alejandro Londono and recorded in CULTURA TRES studios by Juan De Ferrari and Alejandro Londono. ”Rezando Al Miedo”, will be released on CD in UK by Devouter Records (http://www.devouterrecords.co.uk) and in South America by the Argentinean label Cumpa Records. Season Of Mist: LONG DISTANCE CALLING going to support SÓLSTAFIR in March 2013

Icelandic psychedelic metal cowboys SÓLSTAFIR have announced their first European tour of 2013. The band will embark on a journey through eleven countries with LONG DISTANCE CALLING next month. "Movements has a nice warm 70s classic rock and soul and blues rock feel to it. There are plenty of great guitar riffs, the vocals are excellent and it’s easy to get quite a few of the beats stuck in your head. It has a familiar but yet unique sound. It’s modern but yet feels so 1970-ish, even the artwork has a certain aspect that screams 1970s. This is a highlight album for 2011. We all know that modern rock radio today is crap and missing something. The Black Crowes are one of the few modern bands that make it somewhat enjoyable. Since they’re on hiatus someone needs to step up and fill that void. I believe that The Dirty Streets are one of those bands that are certainly capable of filling that void."

Rise Above Records: Die Zeitlupen-Könige MOSS mit ihrem neuen Prachtwerk

Die Zeitlupen-Kult-Könige MOSS schleichen mit einem neuen Prachtwerk um die Ecke. 

Wer MOSS noch nicht kennt, stelle sich einfach eine Band vor, die es sich zur Aufgabe macht hat, heavier und langsamer als die heaviesten und langsamsten Bands zu sein, wahre Düsterheit zu entfachen und ihren Hörern on top noch schönste klaustrophobische Zusammenbrüche zu verschaffen.
Das haben sie in den letzten Jahren immer vortrefflich hinbekommen und toppen es jetzt mit der puren Bösartigkeit von "Horrible Night" sogar. 

Der lahme Dreier hat sich weiterentwickelt, transportiert eine ganz neue Variation der Dunkelheit und löst sich dabei von den früher selbstverordneten "Wir müssen die extremsten sein!"- und "Ein guter Song dauert mindestens zwölf Minuten!"-Schemata. 

Dafür schreiben sie jetzt nicht weniger unter die Haut gehende Mini-Epen, die mit süchtig machenden Melodien angereichert warden.

BELL WITCH: "Longing" DLP pre-sale

Bell Witch is a minimalist doom duo from Seattle comprised of drummer Adrian Guerra and bassist Dylan Desmond (of Samothrace fame).  Uniquely sorrowful, Bell Witch is as much akin to Skepticism as they are to Codeine. Longing is an hour and 10 minutes of doomed desolation, sadness, and sorrow. Originally released on CD and digital formats by Profound Lore Records, Longing was one of the most important doom albums of 2012 featured on numerous year end lists.

Longing will be released as a gatefold double album with thick, old-style case wrapped jackets and comes with a gatefold insert. Comes on both black vinyl and limited red vinyl. Red vinyl is limited to 300 copies. This should ship in March but delays are always possible.

IN-GRAVED: Debut release of Victor Griffin's new band on 26th of March

IN~GRAVED, the new band led by former PENTAGRAM and PLACE OF SKULLS guitarist Victor Griffin, will release their self-titled debut album in Europe and the UK on Friday, March 22 via Finnish label Svart Records and in the US on Tuesday, March 26 via Veritas Records(see album cover below).

The debut self-tilted album was produced by Travis Wyrick (PLACE OF SKULLS) and founding guitarist/vocalist Victor Griffin (DEATH ROW, PENTAGRAM, PLACE OF SKULLS). The album was recorded at Lakeside Studios in Knoxville, Tennessee and engineered by Travis Wyrick and Mike Dearing (PLACE OF SKULLS) with cover art by Richard Schouten (PLACE OF SKULLS).

As previously reported, original drummer of Doom Metal legends TROUBLE, Jeff "Oly" Olson, will play the Hammond organ on the forthcoming debut album and will also feature drummer Pete Campbell (60 WATT SHAMAN, PLACE OF SKULLS), bassists Guy Pinhas(THE OBSESSED, ACID KING, GOATSNAKE), Ron Holzner (TROUBLE, EARTHEN GRAVE, DEBRIS INC), Greg Turley (PENTAGRAM),Marty Swaney (DEATH ROW, PENTAGRAM), and Dan Lively (SWEET CICADA), as well as keyboardist Mike Puleo (ORODRUIN).

IN~GRAVED will perform at the 'Roadburn' festival on Saturday, April 20 in Tilburg, Holland. More tour dates will be announced soon.
