Bilocation Records, der Ableger von Kozmik Artifactz, schiebt eine Vinyl-Perle nach, welche die hohe Qualität der Label-Veröffentlichungen einmal mehr bestätigt. In diesem Fall handelt es sich um eine Deluxe-Reissue des Debüts von MOON CURSE aus Milwaukee, welches sechs Songs lang beweist, dass es in der Schnittmenge aus SABBATH- und ZEPPELIN-Riffing sowie einer gediegenen Portion Fuzz und Stoner-Groove noch einiges zu sagen gibt, vor allem, wenn das Ergebnis derartig tief in den Analen der heavy Rockmusik gräbt und die richtigen Zutaten nicht nur findet, sondern zu eingängigen und kurzweiligen Kompositionen zusammenfügt. Allen ORCHID-, KADAVAR- und klanggenössischen Retro-/Doom-Fans sei dieses Album dringend ans Herz gelegt. Hier geht's allerdings sehr gemütlich und erdig zur Sache, zuweilen auch offensiv WINDHANDig und CATHEDRALisch - das gefällt! Hört euch unbedingt den Vinyl-Only-Track "Seminary Woods" an! INTER ARMA: Streamen 45-Minuten-Opus "The Cavern" auf Pitchfork | Streaming 45 minutes opus, "The Cavern", via Pitchfork

INTER ARMA aus Richmond/Virginia streamen ihre 45-minütige Single-Song-Ep mit dem Namen "The Cavern" vollständig auf Pitchfork. 

Bereits im Sommer 2009 geschrieben, in den darauf folgenden Jahren überarbeitet und perfektioniert, wurde "The Cavern" im vergangenen Jahr während der Pausen zwischen den Touren mit BARONESS, RUSSIAN CIRCLES, ULCERATE u.a. gemeinsam mit Produzent Mikey Allred in den Dark Art Studios in Madison unter den selben Bedingungen wie die "Sky Burial" LP aufgenommen.

INTER ARMAs "The Cavern" ist ein Opus, der ohne Zweifel für lange Zeit als ein visionäres und von Ausdauer zeugendes Kunstwerk angesehen werden wird, und es schafft, innerhalb eines einzigen Songs den Bogen vom amerikanischen Extrem-Metal über Doom und Stoner, bis hin zu progressivem Rock zu spannen.

Die EP, auf welcher WINDHANDs Dorthia Cotrell als Gastsängerin in Erscheinung tritt, wird am 14. Oktober offiziell in Nordamerka, am 13. Oktober im Vereinigten Königreich/weltweit und am 10. Oktober in Deutschland, den Benelux-Ländern und Finnland veröffentlicht. Die physische Form des Albums kann an diesem Ort vorbestellt werden, die digitale Variante HIER.

Desweiteren wird die Band noch im Oktober die Ostküste der USA mit einigen Shows betouren, u.a. als Headliner auf der Metal Sucks/Metal Injection CMJ-Show in Brookly/New York. Das Quintett bestätigte darüber hinaus eine Europatour als Co-Headliner mit MANTAR im November und kompletten Dezember. INTER ARMA wird auch auf dem nächsten Maryland Deathfest auftreten. Richmond, VA genre-destroying metallers INTER ARMA are streaming their entire 45+ minute, single song EP entitled The Cavern via Pitchfork HERE.

Originally written during the summer of 2009, but reworked and perfected over the last few years, The Cavern was recorded last year during breaks from the relentless touring the band did with the likes of Baroness, Russian Circles, Ulcerate and numerous others. The recording was captured with producer Mikey Allred at Dark Art Studios in Madison, TN, the same surroundings and setup that captured last year's monolithic Sky Burial LP.

Shifting from Americana laced extreme metal to doom to stoner rock to prog all within a single song, INTER ARMA's The Cavern is an opus that will surely be heralded for years to come as a work of true artistic vision and endurance.

The EP, which features guest vocals from Windhand’s Dorthia Cottrell will see it’s official release in North America on October 14th, in the UK/World onOctober 13th and in Germany/Benelux/Finland on October 10th. Physical pre-orders are currently available via this location with digital pre-orders available HERE.

Additionally, the band has announced a short run of East Coast shows this October, including headlining the official MetalSucks/Metal Injection CMJ Showcase in Brooklyn, NY. The quintet has also confirmed a co-headlining European tour with German sludge duo Mantar this November through December. SAINT VITUS: Jubiläums-Europatour startet heute! | Anniversary European Tour kicks off today!

Heute Abend geben SAINT VITUS den Startschuss für ihre intensive Europatour anlässlich ihres 35-jährigen Bandjubiläums ab! Um dieses großartige Ereignis gebührend zu feiern, spielen die Urväter des US-amerikanischen Doom Metal alle Songs von "Born Too Late", dem Lieblingsalbum der Fans, welches im Jahr 1986 erstmals veröffentlicht wurde. Die Show wird mit vielen weiteren Klassikern die richtige Würze verliehen.

SAINT VITUS werden von den britischen Doomern ORANGE GOBLIN begleitet. Der doomige Roadtrip beginnt heute in der wunderschönen Stadt Colmar in Frankreich und wird quer durch Europa rocken, bis er am 15. SAINT VITUS kick off their extensive European tour in celebration of the band’s 35th anniversary today! To honour this grand occasion, the godfathers of American Doom Metal will perform all songs from the fan-favourite "Born Too Late" album (originally released in 1986) as part of their show peppered with a host of classic hits.

SAINT VITUS will be joined by British doomsters ORANGE GOBLIN. PIG DESTROYER: Streamen komplette 2-Song-Doom-EP | Stream full "Mass & Volume" EP

Die Grindcore-Band PIG DESTROYER kündigten kürzlich ihre Pläne zur Veröffentlichung einer Zwei-Song-Doom-EP an, die den Titel "Mass & Volume" trägt. Bisher und für einen begrenzten Zeitraum gab es das Release nur als digitale Veröffentlichung, dessen Einnahmen direkt an die Familie des Relapse Records-Angestellten Pat Egan gingen, der letztes Jahr auf tragische Weise ums Leben kam. Jetzt wird das Kult-Release zum allerersten Mal auch in physischen Formaten erhältlich sein. Heute präsentieren PIG DESTROYER den kompletten Stream der monolithischen EP.

Die zwei Songs auf "Mass & Volume", für welche PIG DESTROYER die Handbremse gewaltig angezogen haben, wurden während der Sessions zur 2007er LP "Phantom Limb" komponiert und aufgenommen. Herausgekommen sind zwei atemberaubende, epische Doom-Songs. Das Album wird am 14. Oktober in Nordamerika, am 13. Oktober in Großbritannien/Europa/weltweit und am 10. Oktober in Deutschland/Benelux/Finland erhältlich sein. "Mass & Volume" gibt es in einer limitierten weltweiten Auflage von 2000 CDs und auf limitiertem farbigem Vinyl, welches vom tollen Cover-Artwork des legendären Künstlers Arik Roper geziert wird (HIGH ON FIRE, SLEEP).

Grindcore masters PIG DESTROYER recently announced plans to release a two song doom EP entitled "Mass & Volume". Previously available for a limited time as a digital only release with all of the proceeds going to the family of former Relapse Records employee Pat Egan, who tragically passed away last year, this cult release will now be available on physical formats for the first time ever. Today, PIG DESTROYER present the the full stream of this monolithic EP.

Wer auf die Hippie-Phasen der heiligen CATHEDRAL steht, auf die vergrasten Tieftöne von ELECTRIC WIZARD und fuzzigen 70er-Prog-Rock aus Italien abfährt, wird "Chasma Hideout", das neue Album von der Band BRAIN PYRAMID, lieben.
Abwechslung, auch in Speed-technischer Hinsicht, ist auf dem Release Programm. Mein persönlicher Lieblingssong ist "Lucifer" - antesten und bitte einen angemessenen Preis für die kurzweilige Album-Gesamtleistung auf der Bandcamp-Seite von Acid Cosmonaut Records investieren! Heavy Zeug!

BLUES PILLS: Starten Europatour in Leipzig | European Tour kicked off in Leipzig

Der Auftakt zur Europatournee der schwedischen Band BLUES PILLS fand in den unterirdischen Gewölben der bereits zwei Wochen vor dem Konzert ausverkauften Moritzbastei statt. Genauso wenig verwunderte es, dass die Antwort auf die "Matrix"-Gewissensfrage gestern Abend nicht "Rot!" sondern "Blues!" lautete, denn unter die jugendlichen Fans der Nuclear Blast-Zöglinge hatten sich viele Bluesrock-Freunde der ersten Stunde gemischt, die der Gruppe um die Halbbrüder Zack Anderson (Bass) und Cory Berry (Schlagzeug) mit ihrer Anwesenheit den "Approved"-Stempel verpassten.

"Die spielen die Musik ihrer Eltern!", meinte mein Publikumsnachbar und nickte anerkennend im Takt der Musik, die von zwei nicht zu verleugnenden Tatsachen bestimmt wurde, der spielerischen Qualität von Jung-Gitarrist Dorian Sorriaux und dem Charisma von Sängerin Elin Larsson, die nicht nur optisch die wilden 70er Jahre auf die Bühne zurück holte, sondern und zuallererst mit ihrer ausdrucksstarken Soul-Stimme fesselte. In der heilen, psychedelischen Zeitschleife der Songs vom Debütalbum gefangen, verlangte das Publikum am Ende des Auftritts nach noch mehr Blues-Pillen.

Das Vorprogramm gestalteten die Label-Kollegen THE VINTAGE CARAVAN, welche bereits seit 2006 in Island aktiv sind. Die Band lieferte eine energiegeladene Reise durch die Psychedelic-, Blues- und 70s-Rock-Ära ab. "Voyage", das aktuelle Release, kommt angenehm Riff-lastig und fuzzig daher - eine authentische Gitarrensound-Retrospektive, die bereits in jungen Jahren mit dem Bandnamen festgelegt wurde.

Es wird gemunkelt, dass in Zukunft das eine oder andere musikalisch ähnlich gelagerte Konzert in der schönen Moritzbastei stattfinden wird. Immerhin wurden die Gewölbe unter der Leipziger Innenstadt in den 70er Jahren von studentischen Händen aus dem historischen Boden ausgegraben. Passender geht es wohl kaum. (SM)

Nach drei Jahren meldet sich die Berliner Band ALBEZ DUZ mit einem neuen Album zurück, das den großen Vorbildern aus den frühen 90er Jahren nicht nur zu huldigen weiß, sondern dem mittlerweile verwaschenen Stil der frühen TIAMAT, PARADISE LOST, ANATHEMA oder MY DYING BRIDE mit "The Coming Of Mictlan" ein zur Ehre gereichendes neues Kapitel hinzufügt.
Vor allem denjenigen, welche immer noch um Pete Steel und die mit seinem Ableben ad acta gelegten TYPE O NEGATIVE trauern, sei ALBEZ DUZ neuestes Werk dringend ans dunkle, leiderfüllte Herz gelegt. Gerade auch weil die Stimme unwahrscheinlich nahe an das Vorbild heran kommt, ohne wie bei so vielen Nachahmern lächerlich gekünstelt zu wirken. Die Kompositionen bedienen sich gekonnt gotisch-düsterer Stilmittel und bauen eine unglaublich dichte Atmosphäre auf, die durchaus auch an die episch ausgefeilten Stücke von THE VISION BLEAK erinnern, ohne nur einen Fuß neben den doomig-zähen Klangpfad zu setzen. Die instrumentale und die Produktions-Messlatte wurden überhaupt sehr hoch angesetzt. Da stört es nicht einmal, dass sich ein Cover von Tanika Tikaram in die Tracklist geschlichen hat. "Modern Twist In My Sobriety" ist in der Version von ALBEZ DUZ sogar ein ausgesprochen Doom-affines Stück geworden. Meine persönlichen Anspieltipps sind "Fire Wings" und ""Mictlan". Anno 2014 schließen ALBEZ DUZ gekonnt die klaffende Lücke, die sich in den letzten zwanzig Jahren zwischen Gothic und Doom Metal geschoben hat. (SM)

This band brings back great memories from the 90s around the time we heard Type O Negative, only this is a lot more atmospheric, dark and intriguing too. Music of this texture is rarely found these days. This is moody, melancholic music with a dark twist. It's heavy, gloomy and soulful at the same time. It's vaguely comparable to the bands from the 90s period such as Tiamat, Paradise Lost, Anathema, My Dying Bride and of course, the great and much-missed Type O Negative. Not anymore - Albez Duz is here, taking the occult and gothic atmosphere and infusing it into music that's epic, grand and ominous in a deceptive way. This is as accessible as you want it to be. This is something that came to be known as Dark Metal or in other words Doom or Doom Rock - one thing that remains consistent with any descriptor is the sublime quality of music and emotions.

BLACK SABBATH: Beginnen 2015 die Arbeit an neuem Studioalbum | To Begin Work On New Studio Album in 2015

Ja was denn nun? - Laut BLACK SABBATH-Gitarrist Tony Iommi, der seit 2012 gegen den Krebs kämpft, war der Auftitt im Londoner Hyde Park am 4ten July auch der letzte, weil Tony das Touren sehr zusetzt. Allerdings ließ evil OZZY nun verlauten, dass die Gruppe im nächsten Jahr ein neues Album aufnehmen wird.

Wir schenken dem einfach Glauben und halten fest, dass BLACK SABBATH 2015 die Arbeit an einem neuen Studioalbum aufnehmen werden, in dessen Anschluss eine allerletzte Tour folgen soll.

Es wurde noch kein neues Material für das vierzehnte SABBATH-Album komponiert, aber es geht Anfang nächsten Jahres los, erklärt Osbourne. Außerdem wären laut Geezer Butler noch vier Tracks aus den Aufnahmesessions zu "13" übrig, zu denen man noch vier oder fünf neue Stücke dazu packen und es herausbringen müsste.

Heavy metal legends BLACK SABBATH will begin work on a new studio album in 2015, to be followed by one final tour.

BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi, who has battled cancer since 2012, recently hinted that the group's July 4 gig at London's Hyde Park could have been the band's last because the touring can be tough on him. But frontman Ozzy Osbourne now says that the group will record another CD next year.

"The whole SABBATH experience this time around was great," Ozzy tells Metal Hammer magazine. "We all made friends, we didn't fuck around, we all knew that we had a job to do, and we did it. It was a lot of fun. So we're going to do one more album, and a final tour.

"Once the dust settled after the last tour we started discussing the idea, because we were getting asked about it all the time. I said to [wife/manager] Sharon, 'What's going on? Because if there's no more SABBATH, I want to get on with my own thing again,' and she came back and said, 'Let me look into it.' Three weeks later, I asked her about it again, and she said, 'Oh, I still have to talk to so and so...' and I said 'Sharon, I ain't fucking 21 anymore, if we're going to do I want to do it before I'm 70!' Time isn't on our side! So she made the call and came back and said, 'Yeah, the record company wants another album.' I believe [producer] Rick Rubin is going to do it with us again."

No new material has yet been written for what will be SABBATH's fourteenth studio album, but Osbourne says that sessions will begin early next year.

"It'll be sooner rather than later," the singer says. "Obviously a lot of it is coming down to Tony's health, he's obviously got his cancer treatment, but we'll get onto it next year. I don't know if we'll be writing in England or L.A., but I'll fly to the fucking moon for it if I have to!"

"13", the first SABBATH album since 1978 to feature Ozzy, Iommi and bassist Geezer Butler, was No. 1 in the U.S., the U.K. and nearly a dozen other countries.

Butler recently said that that the threesome already have a head start on a new record, explaining, "We've still got four tracks left over from ['13']. So maybe we'll fill in the other four or five tracks and put out another album — if it's right. We wouldn't do it just for the sake of it, or the money or whatever. But yeah, maybe.

"Wenn du das nochmal machst, dann latsche ich dir sowas von in den Allerwertesten!", keifte der kanadische Holzfäller wütend, nachdem ihm sein Kollege versehentlich ein Bein abhackte. Dieser rief nicht die SMH an, sondern holte noch einmal mit der Axt aus. - Dieses Szenario beschreibt in etwa, mit welcher Kompromisslosigkeit ALGOMA aus den nordamerikanischen Wäldern auf ihrem Album "Reclaimed by the Forest" vorgehen.
Im Gegensatz zu anderen Sludge-Kollegen holt die Band nicht nur gewaltig aus, sondern trifft mit jedem Riff und jeder Distortion millimetergenau in die Magengrube, um anschließend mit der Bassdrum ordentlich nachzutreten. Im Gegensatz zu den Genre-üblichen Screams schnauzt Darby Wiigwaas dermaßen angewiedert und Whisky-geschwängert herum, dass einem nur eins im Kopf herum schwirrt: "Wie komme ich bloß hier weg, bevor mich der finstere Typ platt macht?!" Alle Genießer lassen sich einfach von der Sludge/Doom-Walze in den Waldboden pressen, nachdem das zweite Bein tschüß gesagt hat. Der hinterlassenen Sauerei nehmen sich das Moos und die Tiere an. Da bleibt nichts übrig! Sogar WEEDEATER dürfte bei den Klängen die Kinnlade nach unten klappen! (SM)

This band is relentless in its expression, dumping one slab upon the other of skull-smashing riffs, pounding beats and a routine-debilitating tempo. This is comparable to the music of ELECTRIC WIZARD, EYEHATEGOD, SLEEP, FISTULA, THE DEAD, WEEDEATER, BONGZILLA and HOODED MENACE and ACID WITCH. Die baskische Doom-Metal-Institution HORN OF THE RHINO hat das dritte Vollzeitalbum unter dem Namen "Summoning Deliverance" veröffentlicht. Wie auf den Vorgängern bestechen die Kompositionen mit einer einmaligen Mischung aus extrem heavy Riffing, knackigen Leads, Ohrwurmmelodien, drückenden Blast-Einsprengslern und dem einmaligen Gesang von Javier Galvez, welcher von tiefen Aggro-Grunts bis in die hohen Tonlagen reicht, dass Tom Araya (SLAYER) und Chris Cornell (SOUNDGARDEN) feuchte Augen bekommen.
Bediente das erste Werk ganz eindeutig den Doom-Metal-Sektor, wagte sich der Nachfolger "Grengus" gekonnt in wilde Thrash-Gefilde vor. Das aktuelle Album ist ein Klang gewordener Bastard aus beiden Zutaten und dürfte alle zufrieden stellen, die neben einer top Produktion vor allem auf eines stehen - ULTRA HEAVY STUFF!!! (SM)

Schwer, schwerer, am schwersten! - Der Superlativ reicht kaum aus, um das gestrige Konzert im ehrwürdigen UT Connewitz in Worte zu fassen, dessen Auftakt die Leipziger Band DeZAFRA RIDGE ablieferte. Jene heizten das Union Theater auf ordentliche Betriebstemperatur und stimmten das Publikum auf die hochkarätigen Genre-Kollegen ein.

Mit ihrer hochgelobten Demo überzeugten PALLBEARER vor gerade einmal vier Jahren nicht nur den Doom-Underground, sondern auch Profound Lore Records, auf welchem sie 2012 das Debüt "Sorrow And Extiction" veröffentlichten. Seit dem 25. August ist das zweite Album draußen, mit dem die Band einen gewaltigen Schritt nach vorne macht und die Doom-Oberliga von oben aufräumt.
Dass "Foundations Of Burden" auch live funktioniert, bewiesen PALLBEARER gestern eindrucksvoll mit ultraschweren Gitarrenriffs, die, bei langsamstem Tempo ausgerollt, mit Ohrwurmmelodien und dem Klagegesang von Brett Campbell überzeugten. Mit den neuen Songs tritt die Band selbstsicher aus dem Schatten von WARNING heraus, mit denen sie sich auf "Sorrow And Extinction" noch vergleichen lassen mussten. PALLBEARER klingen 2014 nicht nur doomiger, sondern auch wesentlich heavier. Das Publikum dankte es den Briten mit einem zufriedenen und äußerst entspannten Grinsen. In solcher Anmut, wie an diesem Abend präsentiert, macht Doom sehr glücklich.

YOB treiben bereits seit 1996 ihr Doom-Unwesen, auch wenn Bandgründer Mike Scheidt seiner Band diesen Stempel selbst nicht aufdrücken würde, wie er Doom Metal Front im Interview verriet. Nichtsdestotrotz waren viele Freunde der langsamen Musik gerade wegen der amerikanischen Band angereist, die ihr niegelnagelneues siebtes Album, "Clearing The Path To Ascend" im Gepäck hatte, auf dessen vier Tracks sich an diesem Abend beschränkt wurde, zum Leidwesen derer, die sich den einen oder anderen Klassiker aus der Bandgeschichte gewünscht hätten. Ich wurde vollends zufrieden gestellt, denn bei einer reichlichen Stunde Gesamtspielzeit boten die neuen Stücke eine äußerst gelungene Quersumme durch das YOB'sche Klanguniversum - angefangen mit dem urgewaltig rauhen Stück "Nothing To Win", danach das doomig schöne "In Our Blood", gefolgt von "Unmask The Spectre" - den Höhepunkt und überlangen Abschluss bot das 18-minütige "Marrow", welches Mike Scheidt und Co. von ihrer gefühlvollen und atmosphärisch-melodiösen Seite zeigte. Nicht zuletzt ist es Mikes Gesangsspektrum, welches von tiefen Grunts, über beängstigende Schreie bis in die hohen Tonlagen reicht, zu verdanken, dass auch dieser Auftritt zu einem emotionalen und intensiven Doom-Erlebnis wurde. Ob Mike das nun gefällt oder nicht!

Der Name THE SKULL dürfte bei all denjenigen Begeisterungsstürme auslösen, die nach dem Doom-Anker im tobenden Retro-Rock-Sturm suchen. Dieser wird gleich von drei ehemaligen Mitgliedern der Doom-Metal-Legende TROUBLE zielsicher ausgeworfen – von Sänger Eric Wagner, Bassist Ron Holzner und Drummer Jeff "Oly" Olson – deren 1985er Album "The Skull" einen Meilenstein in der Band- und Genregeschichte markierte und nun programmatisch über der neuen Formation schwebt.

THE SKULL starteten 2011, um Sound und Spirit des klassischen Doom Metal am Leben zu erhalten, was ihnen mit "For Those Which Are Asleep" hervorragend gelingt. Das Album rockt zeitlos, ohne retro zu klingen und zeigt, dass hier ein paar echte Profis am Start sind, die ihre Musik mit tiefster Leidenschaft zelebrieren. This August, two years on from the release of their seminal debut LP "Sorrow and Extinction", PALLBEARER will unleash the most powerful and engaging chapter in their story thus far; "Foundations of Burden"; a triumph for the Arkansas natives in that each song sees the band shaping their own musical paradigm unfettered by the confines of heavy metal and indisputably setting an unparalleled standard for those that follow in its wake.

Produced and mixed by Billy Anderson (Sleep, etc) in Portland, OR in the late winter of last year, the album evokes a sonic consciousness of melodic complexity with each song carrying a weight of melancholic devastation that sees PALLBEARER forging it's own brilliantly desolate path that, while firmly rooted in heavy metal, reaches far beyond any genre dynamic by crafting music that seeks to balance itself at the very threshold of an unforgiving void.

Initially formed in 2008, by Joseph D. Rowland (bass) and Brett Campbell (vocals/guitars), PALLBEARER grew from the fertile underground metal scene of Little Rock, Arkansas. A year later, joined by guitarist Devin Holt and (since departed) drummer Zach Stine, the four members quickly recorded the band's first demo. These three tracks garnered well-deserved attention, with critics and fans taking notice of what could only be described as a wholly singular sound from the promising band.

PALLBEARER's debut full-length "Sorrow and Extinction" was released in early 2012. At just under fifty minutes, the album's five tracks capitalised on the primal clout of the band's demo, but here the songs were freed from reliance on volume as the music wavered beautifully between subdued introspection and towering aural force. Released by the well-respected Canadian indie metal label, Profound Lore, "Sorrow and Extinction" instantly made waves among listeners and critics who found Pallbearer's compositional paradox of vulnerability and might unparalleled in a metal world replete with imitators.

"Sorrow and Extinction" proved to be an unequivocal masterpiece in any genre of music and, most importantly, compelled PALLBEARER to reach even further creatively for what would come next. 2012 would also see the addition of drummer Mark Lierly, adding further depth to the already immense and mercurial sound the band had pioneered. Rather than settle themselves in the convenient safety of listener expectation, PALLBEARER delve even deeper into melodic contexts for "Foundations of Burden", with Rowland now adding his own impressive vocalisations to the sonic texture. This new vocal dynamic brings an authentically visceral component to PALLBEARER's music that, while giving credence to their metal foundations, adds a new and compelling dimension to music which has long since proved itself to be inexorably captivating.
