Fresh but Hearty!

On their debut-album “Insidious Black Sea” IRON WALRUS present themselves as an incarnated Doom-/Sludge-/Noise-/Rock-Monster that can’t and doesn’t want deny its musical foster-fathers ST. VITUS, UNSANE, EYEHATEGOD, GOATSNAKE, HELMET and QUICKSAND. But at the same time the band shows proof that music “that raises hell” not necessarily has to originate from America or Scandinavia. Brutal riffing, banging bass-hooks, driving drums and aggressive shouting – that is IRON WALRUS.

Only started in May 2013, it was not the plan of the young team of old professionals to approach things in a calm and relaxed way. After just a short time, two demos appeared on Reverbnation, getting a considerable amount of clicks and when the band shared the stage with TORCHE on their first show, it had everything except a small and intimate atmosphere.

In October 2013 IRON WALRUS had already enough songs written and arranged to be able to enter the studio with Robin Völkert (DEAN DIRG, UNION OF SLEEP, THE NOW DENIAL) and record “Insidious Black Sea”. A couple of weeks and one album-recording later in November, the band was back on stage with PENTAGRAM and UNION OF SLEEP to play a couple of shows.

It doesn’t have to be mentioned that such a racy and confident appearance remains hidden for long and so it’s no wonder that M.A.D. Tourbooking (NAPALM DEATH, CROWBAR), a reliable partner for the live-sector, was as quickly found as the established label Redfield Records.

On this fundament, the story of IRON WALRUS can be continued in 2014, like it has begun in 2013: The debut-album “Insidious Black Sea” will be released on April 11 and shows with CROWBAR are booked along with an appearance on the legendary Rotormania Festival. No one should miss this, because you can be assured: “Everyone who has seen us live, definitely left the show with a diabolical smile on his face.”

IRON WALRUS präsentieren sich auf ihrem Debüt-Album „Insidious Black Sea“ als fleischgewordenes Doom-/Sludge-/Noise-/Rock-Monster, das musikalische Ziehväter wie ST. VITUS, UNSANE, EYEHATEGOD, GOATSNAKE, HELMET und QUICKSAND auf keinen Fall verleugnen kann - und will! Zugleich tritt die Band aber auch den Beweis an, dass alles was „derbe auf die Glocke geht“ nicht zwingend aus Amerika oder Skandinavien stammen muss. Erst im Mai 2013 formierten sich IRON WALRUS. Ruhig und entspannt wollte es das junge Team alteingesessener Profis aber nicht angehen lassen und so gab es bereits nach kürzester Zeit zwei Demo-Tracks und eine beachtliche Zahl an Klicks auf Reverbnation. Auch die erste Show fand zwei Monate nach Bandgründung entsprechend nicht im kleinen und intimen Rahmen statt, sondern man teilte sich auf Anhieb die Bühne mit TORCHE.

Bereits im Oktober 2013 hatten IRON WALRUS genug Songs geschrieben und arrangiert, so dass sie das Studio mit Robin Völkert (DEAN DIRG, UNION OF SLEEP, THE NOW DENIAL) entern konnten, um „Insidious Black Sea“ aufzunehmen. Eine Albumaufnahme später, stand man im November schon wieder für einzelne Shows mit PENTAGRAM und UNION OF SLEEP auf der Bühne.

Dass ein solch rasantes und selbstsicheres Auftreten namhafter Musiker nicht lange unentdeckt bleibt, ist kein Wunder und so war mit M.A.D. Tourbooking (NAPALM DEATH, CROWBAR, SICK OF IT ALL) schnell ein namhafter Partner für den Live-Sektor am Start und mit Redfield Records ebenso schnell ein etabliertes Label gefunden.

Somit kann die Geschichte von IRON WALRUS 2014 genau so weiter gehen, wie sie 2013 begonnen hat: Am 11. April erscheint das Debüt-Album „Insidious Black Sea“ und Shows mit CROWBAR stehen ebenfalls bereits auf dem Tourplan, genau wie eine Show auf dem legendären Rotormania Festival. Verpassen sollte man das auf keinen Fall, denn es sei versichert: „Wer uns live erlebt hat, geht in jedem Fall mit einem diabolischen Grinsen im Gesicht nach Hause!“

They have 97% of the album written, and will be recording it in May with Greg Chandler at Priory Studios. Also in May ALUNAH will be embarking on a small headline tour of England, and later in the year will be doing a European album tour in-conjunction with Sound of Liberation Booking.

RED FANG: Bereiten sich auf zweiten Teil der Europatour vor | Prepare for second leg of European tour

Following a successful first leg, RED FANG are preparing to head back to Europe for the second leg of their monster European tour. Having conquered multiple European cities in January and February, the Portland quartet returned home to regroup before setting their sights back on this side of the pond in March.

Part two of the tour - on which they will once again be joined by The Shrine and label mates Lord Dying - will kick off in two weeks time in Cologne, Germany. The original venues in both Paris and London sold out in advance and as a consequence were upgraded. The upgraded venue, The Trabendo, in Paris has once again sold out, however tickets are still available for the upgraded venue at the Electric Ballroom in London.

Drummer, John Sherman, commented: "The first leg of our European tour with the Shrine and Lord Dying was completely nuts!  We can't wait to get back and start leg two in a few weeks.  The Paris and London shows have already sold out and been upgraded to bigger venues, so the word must be out - this tour is not to be missed!  See ya soon!!"

RED FANG have been enjoying a successful 2014 so far, following the release of their latest album Whales and Leeches via Relapse records last year. Pre-Order for BLACK SHAPE OF NEXUS / LAZARUS BLACKSTAR - SPLIT started! Coming up on March 13th!

For this eagerly-awaited Split LP, the North-West of England meths the North-West of German as two storming merchants of doom crash headlong into each other for half-an-hour of immersive Sturm und Drang. From an early pressurized melting pot where Bradford and Liverpool´s Lazarus Blackstar crust-coated doom and blackened death-drone brews inside a morphing structure, the record steadily winds up the tempo until Mannheim sexted Black Shape Of Nexus take over and begin to introduce experimental layers of feedback and replace grit with groove. It all adds up to a wonderfully wretched experience that aims to bury you deep beneath six-feet of stinking, blackened soil.

Setting off through the sludge and buzz-heavy riffing of Lazarus Blackstar’s “Command and Control”, Mik Hell’s growl and dissonant rage pitch us downwards until they find their spiritual nadir in a ponderous hole where two sets of layered vocals tear lumps out of each other upon a bedrock of whining drone. From here they dust themselves off and settle into the patchwork quilt of sections that form “Whispering Through Broken Teeth”. Reminiscent of St. Vitus and, to a point, Eyehategod there is also a moment where, disconcertingly, it all begins to sound a bit like a slowed-down Iron Maiden tape. Walking you through, we’ve got an introductory riff that cuts abrasively into a rumbling verse, before heading down to half-time for the chorus and then out into a displaced, yet memorably upbeat riff. Rinse and repeat ad infinitum.

Experimenting with much more success, B.SON tug at their Neurosis chain and flush out a tongue-in-cheek offering to the Gods of doom. The 11-minute “Honor Found In Delay”, littered with psychedelic hits of feedback and noisy electronica, gets you deep in the gut with a thunderous, soul-shaking series of chords. The construction is much more organic here and stands in direct opposition to Lazarus Blackstar’s harsh segues. When they find their chug-friendly two-note doom boots they stomp about in them like pigs in muck with Malte Seidel screaming blue murder from, what sounds like, the other side of the street.

Best of all, closer “Always And Only” spends its entire 9-minute length revelling in the joys that a simple-spined, steadily evolving, quality tongue-and-groove doom song can supply. And who better than George Orwell to provide the LP’s morbid epitaph? His soundbite taken from the BBC Series “The Life Of Orwell” plays this intriguingly miserablist LP out – “If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face… forever”.

STEAK nehmen Debüt-Album in der kalifornischen Wüste auf / STEAK to record debut album in the California desert

In exactly two weeks, London's hottest stoner outfit STEAK will hit the California desert to record their first full-length, due out this fall on Napalm Records. Turn on the generators...

After two critically acclaimed EPs Disastronaught and Corned Beef Colossus and a serie of successful gigs across Spain, France, Switzerland and England, the fuzzy foursome is packing up and heading to SoCal to record what will be an authentic desert rock full-length. The album will be recorded at Thunder Underground Studios in Palm Springs, produced by Harper Hug (Vista Chino, Yawning Man, Brant Bjork) and co-produced by Arthur Seay (from Unida and House Of Broken Promises). STEAK's debut effort is due out this fall on Napalm Records.

Within two years, STEAK have established themselves as "one of the British heavy rock scene's most satisfying acts" (The Obelisk). Following the sandy steps of their American elders Kyuss or Fu Manchu, their music is driven by frantic riffs and contagious grooves, tinged with moments of pure cosmic escapism. Exploiting sci-fi and comics imagery (each record being wrapped in fantastic artwork by DC Comics artist Eduardo Ferigato), STEAK's vibe is nothing but gutsy and lively: it's no coincidence if the band already shared stages with the likes of Monster Magnet, Lowrider and Dozer.

Here's an enthusiastic statement about the upcoming journey, from STEAK's riffmaker in chief Reece: "With the help from some desert rock legends, this album is going to be bigger and more badass than anything we have done before. We just need to make it out of Vegas alive! Thanks to Napalm Records, we have been able to take the time to create some of the best tracks to date and let them evolve naturally. Having two weeks in the studio will be a total contrast to the short time we had to record the first EPs, and will hopefully show through on the end product."

Psychedelically layered Stoner Punk with touches of Doom?! LIGHTSABRES from Sweden plays it!

FLOOR are back. The trio formed in 1992 achieved legendary status with only one full-length, their self-titled debut album "Floor" (2002) and despite splitting two years later. Their first line-up consisted of guitarist and vocalist Steve Brooks, Anthony Vialon on guitar and bass, and drummer Betty Monteavaro. The latter was replaced by Jeff Sousa in 1993, while Brooks and Vialon dropped the bass in favour of two low-tuned guitars. This line-up released several cult vinyl 7" EPs until a first break-up in 1996. The guitarists returned with Henry Wilson on drums for one show in 1997. Following hard on the heels of KYUSS, FLOOR are brothers in spirit to the desert rock feeling of shimmering heat, the pound and stomp of heavy engines, and a burning taste of diesel in the air. After breaking up again, Steve Brooks moved on and formed TORCHE with massive success. Yet the guitarist and singer still agreed to a reunion tour in 2010 to celebrate the release of "Below & Beyond", which encompassed the trio’s complete material until that point in an 8-CD/10-LP box set. Heavily enjoying the experience and further fuelled by the exponentially grown following during their hiatus, FLOOR decided to record a new album. Now "Oblation" picks up where "Floor" left off more than ten years ago. Adding a dose of doom and a dash of drone, the new album crushes with a powerful production. CONVERGE guitarist Kurt Ballou mixed the album at GodCity Studios (TORCHE, KVELERTAK, HIGH ON FIRE) and the mastering was done by Alan Douches (BARONESS, BLACK TUSK, MOTÖRHEAD). Lean back, crank up and sacrifice to the gods of stoner rock with this mighty "Oblation".

Considered as one of the greats of the European stoner rock scene, France based MARS RED SKY have gained international recognition thanks to a unique sound imprint based on thick infectious grooves and melodic aerial guitar riffs. The release of their EP “Be My guide” in the spring of 2013 prophetically opened the path for an extensive tour across Europe, then across the Atlantic Ocean for a few exciting gigs in Latin America, where they recorded their new album, due April 2014 on LISTENABLE RECORDS. They love minimalist and repetitive but heavy and distorted drones and stoner doom metal riffs, together with slow ambient/jazz environments. Each member comes from a different music background but they all agree on listening to Earth, Om and Sleep. What comes out is a mix of heavy sonorities and elements of avant-garde metal, with the saxophone as a peculiar vocal line. For fans of Yakuza, Minsk, Callisto but also any doom metal, post metal, stoner and psychedelic music lover.

Mope's self-titled debut album will be out on 22nd February 2014, released by Taxi Driver Records (Genova, Italy) in CD and digital format. "Mope" was recorded at Cdm, then mixed and mastered at El Fish Recording Studio. The CD cover artwork is a drawing by Jessica Rassi (The Giant's Lab).

The task of finding a suitable replacement wasn’t easy but after some search, the remaining members, bassist NH and drummer P. Tosher, found in Diana Silveira the ideal singer. Diana’s voice not only fits perfectly into the enigmatic and gloomy sound of A TREE OF SIGNS, but also adds a more rocking vibe to the new songs.
"Saturn", their new single featuring three new songs sees A TREE OF SIGNS conjuring once again a dark and mystical atmosphere, crafting enigmatic songs that are part occult rock, part prophetic doom.

Recharged Italian label Minotauro Records has announced the upcoming release of "The Last Neanderthal" from Portland, ME’s Heavy Metal Doom Rockers OGRE on February 21 in Europe and March 8 in North America. The band’s fourth full-length release continues OGRE’s splendid combination of classic proto-metal (BLACK SABBATH, BUDGIE, DUST), a touch of 70s prog rock (most notably RUSH), and a heaping dose of vintage doom (SAINT VITUS, PENTAGRAM). The Last Neanderthaleven includes a cover of “Soulless Woman” by a different OGRE, a 70s bar band from the Pacific Northwest.

BIO:
OGRE formed in 1999 when Ed Cunningham (bass/vocals) joined forces with Ross Markonish (guitar) and Will Broadbent (drums), who had been playing together in several bands in the Portland, Maine music scene. Together, Ed, Ross, and Will quickly wrote and recorded a 4-track demo cassette that garnered high praise in the underground doom metal and stoner-rock community. In 2003, the band self-released its first full length, Dawn of the Proto-Man, to critical acclaim. The disc created enough buzz to get noticed by Japan's Leafhound Records, who put out the band's second and third albums, Seven Hells in 2006 and Plague of the Planet in 2008, the latter album being reissued by Shadow Kingdom Records (US) in 2009. After a decade of playing shows up and down the East Coast as well abroad (Japan Tour with Church of Misery and Blood Farmers in 2008), OGRE returned to its cave in September 2009. Coaxed out of hibernation after several years, the band played a handful of local shows and began writing new material that would eventually comprise its fourth album, The Last Neanderthal, to be released by Minotauro Records (Italy) in March 2014. As one of the first currently active bands to be signed to the newly-recharged Minotauro, OGRE is ready to stampede into the next phase of its career.

COFFINS confirm US Tour & Return to MDF

Following their widest-reaching LP to date in 2013's The Fleshland, Tokyo's COFFINS have confirmed a new American invasion this Spring.

COFFINS will bring their diseased, suffocating death-doom decimation back to this side of the Pacific once again in May with a special mini-tour, marking a four-year gap since their previous stateside visit. Bringing forth bulldozing hymns from The Fleshland and a brutal back-catalog of mid-paced gravedigging metal, COFFINS will plunder Chicago, Cleveland, Brooklyn and Philadelphia with a recently revamped lineup, beginning May 18th. FLOOR premiere first new song of forthcoming second full-length "Oblation"!

TORCHE mastermind Steve Brooks revives his original band FLOOR. The cult stoner rockers now premiere the first track of their forthcoming second full-length "Oblation". Their song entitled "War Party" is now streaming:

FLOOR are back. The trio formed in 1992 achieved legendary status with only one full-length, their self-titled debut album "Floor" (2002) and despite splitting two years later. Their first line-up consisted of guitarist and vocalist Steve Brooks, Anthony Vialon on guitar and bass, and drummer Betty Monteavaro. The latter was replaced by Jeff Sousa in 1993, while Brooks and Vialon dropped the bass in favour of two low-tuned guitars. This line-up released several cult vinyl 7" EPs until a first break-up in 1996. The guitarists returned with Henry Wilson on drums for one show in 1997. Following hard on the heels of KYUSS, FLOOR are brothers in spirit to the desert rock feeling of shimmering heat, the pound and stomp of heavy engines, and a burning taste of diesel in the air. After breaking up again, Steve Brooks moved on and formed TORCHE with massive success. Yet the guitarist and singer still agreed to a reunion tour in 2010 to celebrate the release of "Below & Beyond", which encompassed the trio’s complete material until that point in an 8-CD/10-LP box set. Heavily enjoying the experience and further fuelled by the exponentially grown following during their hiatus, FLOOR decided to record a new album. Now "Oblation" picks up where "Floor" left off more than ten years ago. Adding a dose of doom and a dash of drone, the new album crushes with a powerful production. CONVERGE guitarist Kurt Ballou mixed the album at GodCity Studios (TORCHE, KVELERTAK, HIGH ON FIRE) and the mastering was done by Alan Douches (BARONESS, BLACK TUSK, MOTÖRHEAD). Lean back, crank up and sacrifice to the gods of stoner rock with this mighty "Oblation".

TELEPATHY’s debut album "12 Areas" out on May 5th - First track released now!

Devouter Records are pleased to release the first track ‘Cystine Knot’ taken from TELEPATHY’s debut album "12 Areas" out on May 5th.



Eschewing genre guidelines and traditional song structures whilst blending elements of Progressive Sludge and Post-Metal, TELEPATHY have been causing a stir on the UK and European underground circuit since 2011.

The new album from progressive sludge behemoths TELEPATHY will be arriving on "insert release date" 2014 on UK based label Devouter Records. Available on 12" LP, CD, Digital & through Bandcamp, the album sees TELEPATHY expanding on their all compassing, technically proficient sludge/ post-metal sound whilst adding elements of noise, ambient and drone to their already crushing sonic palette.

Beginning with the slow and uneasy fall into unconsciousness, the record explores the subject of lucid dreaming and dream phenomena, charting the progression of a lucid dream and the many sleep states of the human mind involved in the experience.
