Relapse Records signs ATRIARCH (Portland/USA)

Relapse Records announce the signing of Portland, OR blackened Death/Doom quartet ATRIACH. Formed in 2009, ATRIACH (Lenny Smith - Vocals, Brooks Blackhawk - Guitars, Maxamillion - Drums, Joe Wickström - Bass) have released two full lengths including Forever the End in 2011 via Seventh Rule (stream) and Ritual of Passing 2012 via Profound Lore (stream) plus a split with Alaric on 20 Buck Spin.

The band will enter the studio this June with famed producer Billy Anderson (Sleep, Eyehategod, Agalloch) to record their third full-length and Relapse debut which is sure to be their most ambitious and darkest album to date.

The group commented on the upcoming material: "We are constantly evolving as artists and we want to do something new with each release. Having said that it will always be dark and heavy and honestly reflect how we feel. Atriarch is a manifestation of our catharsis." and the signing: "It is an honor to be joining the ranks of Relapse Records. MONSTER MAGNET rockten sich elegant durch CHURCH OF MISERYs Doom-Trümmer / MONSTER MAGNET rocked stylishly through Doom ruins left by CHURCH OF MISERY

Am 28. Januar fegte ein Stoner Rock und Doom-Sturm durch das Werk 2 in Leipzig, der seinesgleichen sucht. Zuerst legten die japanischen CHURCH OF MISERY die Location mit den Massenmörder-Hymnen vom eben erst erschienenen Album "Thy Kingdom Scum" (Rise Above Records, 2013) in Schutt und Asche. Anschließend schlängelten sich die 1989 in New Jersey (USA) gegründeten MONSTER MAGNET mit einer Stoner-Hymne nach der anderen elegant durch die Bühnentrümmer. Allen voran Frontmann Dave Wyndorf, der im Vergleich zum Auftritt vor drei Jahren nicht nur auf ein optisch gesundes Körpermaß geschrumpft ist, sondern insgesamt agiler und bei guter Stimme war. Wer die Schlaghosen flattern lassen möchte, darf das auf der andauernden, ausgiebigen Europatournee nachholen.

Self-titled LP from Finish Death/Doom Metal band WARD released

Finland’s downtempo heavyweights WARD have been stirring their unique musical mixture already since 2005, but only after two smaller releases and a reasonable amount of live performances are they ready to bring out their long-awaited debut full-length.

Building from the atmospheric melodies of doom metal, raw sound and morbidness of early crust and the primitive force and heaviness of old-school death metal, the self-titled LP of these Tampere-based long runners consists of four tracks and nearly 36 minutes of unnaturally heavy darkness. One of the tracks, pitch black “SELF MADE HELL” can be found at the moment in the WARD bandcamp, as well as two tracks from their earlier releases.

After almost two years of completely analogue recording, mixing and mastering in the band's bassist's own Black Floyd's Studios, WARD LP was released in December 2013 in collaboration with four Finnish independent labels and is only available on black vinyl with a pressing of 500 pcs. Top-tier stoner/doom metal band WEED IS WEED has signed a world-wide deal with Ripple Music for the release of their full-length album, Blunt Force Trauma.

Years of seismic rumbling have led way to the tectonic formation that is WEED IS WEED. Two legendary masters of Maryland Doom, Dave "Sherm" Sherman and Gary Isom, come with a stoner/doom metal pedigree second to none. Sherm and Gary have been the creative catalysts in such genre defining bands as Pentagram, Earthride, and Spirit Caravan, and now they're set to launch their newest, blazing heavy rock venture. Having assembled their most blazing line-up ever, this group of musicians have crafted the perfect sound track for red-eyed blazers the world over - Blunt Force Trauma. MARS RED SKY sign to Listenable Records; new album will be released this Spring!

France’s stoner rock emblematic trio MARS RED SKY just inked a deal with European record label Listenable Records, on which the band will release its brand new full-length as well as a 7’’ EP, both set for release this spring.

Considered as one of the greats of the European stoner rock scene, France based MARS RED SKY have gained international recognition thanks to a unique sound imprint based on thick infectious grooves and melodic aerial guitar riffs. This is truly a one of a kind experience, wrapped up by Julien Pras’ ethereal vocals, Matgaz’ powerful rhythms and Jimmy Kinast’s pachydermic bass lines. Somewhere between doom metal and 70’s psyche pop, the Mars Red Sound intrigues to begin with, after which it irremediably attracts the masses to celebrate this cosmic ritual of solar burning fuzz and reverberated atmospheres.

Driven by the huge success of their eponymous debut record, which was recorded in Spain’s mystic Bardenas desert and released in 2011, the Bordelais were quickly invited to play on the largest European stages with Kyuss Lives!, Dinosaur Jr, Sleep, and popular festivals such as Eurockéennes de Belfort (Fr), Roadburn (NL), London and Berlin Desertfest, Sziget Festival (Hun), SXSW (USA), leading them to play in more than 20 countries.

"Aeonian", the second full-length from ETHEREAL RIFFIAN, elevates the Ukrainian onto the next level of musical progression

ETHEREAL RIFFIAN was formed in summer of 2010. After spending several years and experimenting with different musical styles, they have found sonic vibrations that sound in unison with ER's collective consciousness. "Shaman's Visions", the debut work of ER, was released in 2011 and the result of the long search.

Exactly one year later, the next release "Dkyil Khor (Sand Mandala)" was added to the band's discography. The twenty-minute meditational single was written for one of the expositions of the Arsenale-Biennale 2012 exhibition, which was devoted to the transience of time and the search of self.

The second full-length album called "Aeonian" is the band's most mature work, which unites all the best talents of its members. The eponimous book merged as a result of their intention to fully disclose the ideas and concepts of the album. While working on the narrative, ER realized that from now on books would become an integral part of the band’s creative work, for they let reinforce the images created by the music and inculcate them in the consciousness of the listeners.

The band's activity has two main objectives: to compose unconventional music, which is able to expand the frames of the listener's musical perception, and to shed light on the existence of a subtler plane, whose laws if understood properly may help to perceive the reality on a deeper level. In order to achieve the abovementioned goals, ER diligently work on each new release. That is exactly why the ones who get acquainted with the creative work of ER need to be very attentive.

EVERYONE LIVES EVERYONE WINS from Lexington, Kentucky in the USA create live ritual experiences with sound, installation and psychedelic theatrics. They also make sound and visual recordings. The band recently released "Persistence Hunting Dream Death", a three-movement piece that describes greeting death with peace and strength by hunting the unknown in Dreams.

The physical artifact includes the audio version on CD, and also a DVD with the visual trip version and a live ritual conducted in Lexington, Kentucky. The piece was recorded and engineered by Paul Puckett and mastered by James Plotkin.

Relapse Records is proud to announce the re-release of YOB's psyche-doom metal classic Catharsis on vinyl. After being out of print on vinyl for over six years, Catharsis has been given the deluxe re-issue treatment and will be released the way it was meant to be presented. Re-mastered from the original tapes by Tad Doyle, the reissue features stunning new artwork by Aaron Edge, and brand new liner notes from Guitarist / Vocalist Mike Scheidt.

Catharsis will see it's official vinyl re-release on March 4th in North America, March 3rd in the UK/World and February 28th in Germany/Benelux/Finland. WINDHAND and INTER ARMA announce European tour dates

WINDHAND and INTER ARMA have today both unveiled European tour dates - many of which will take place with each other. The two bands, both hailing from Richmond, Virginia, will play Roadburn festival alongside fellow Relapse artists True Widow, -(16)-, Indian, ASG, Locrian and Lord Dying.

WINDHAND DRUMMER, Ryan Wolfe, commented: "We're really excited to return to Europe and especially honored to be playing Roadburn and Heavy Days In Doomtown. We met some cool folks on our previous tour and looking forward to catching up with them. Plus playing with Inter Arma for a few weeks will be easy on my ears."

INTER ARMA guitarist, Trey Dalton added: "We've heard nothing but pretty incredible things about how awesome it can be touring in Europe, and needless to say we're very ready to experience that for ourselves. We're most definitely looking forward to playing at Roadburn as we're basically pals with half the bands playing, not to mention that we'll be with some of our best friends in Windhand for the majority of the tour. That being said, I think we're pretty excited about all of the shows. Most of us haven't done a lot of international traveling at all so this is a pretty righteous opportunity."

INTER ARMA will kick off their tour on April 4th in Antwerp, alongside Indian, and will meet up with WINDHAND to play Doom Over Leipzig festival, before the two bands continue on together throughout Europe. The last date the two bands will play together will be April 24, before INTER ARMA play a final show then head home and WINDHAND plough on, playing shows up through Scandinavia.

The phoenix of classical myth was considered to be a creature of great beauty. Bursting into flames at the end of its life cycle, the bird would be reborn out of the ashes of its predecessor. "I came across Alaskan because of their affiliation with other Ottawa post metal / sludge bands. Let’s face it: many similar bands have arisen on the Ottawa metal scene in the last few years: Buried Inside, Goetia, Biipiigwan, Collider, etc. Not so far away, whether you are in Montreal or in Toronto, dozens of other bands can be added to that list. The genre established by Neurosis, Isis or Cult of Luna is now a saturated market, but I think Alaskan stands on top of the most recent bands food chain. The quality of their music and their dedication help the guys from Alaskan stand out of the crowd. They are in a kind of Cult of Luna-esque dark mood, with almost simple guitar chords that create this loud wall of sound you expect from such a band. Alaskan went epic on most of their songs: they added atmospheric passages and intro, in proportions that help blending the songs together and bringing the listener throughout their livesets without any difficulty. For any three-piece band, there’s always a challenge about song structure, because of the absence of a lead guitar or additional instruments. Alaskan masters perfectly this, and while you can hear perfectly every instrument on the album, you don’t have the impression that something is missing. “Noises” were added here and there in the background, and this aspect of the production makes me want to go back to the album from time to time just for its “layers” quality.

Another thing that I mentioned previously is the musician’s dedication to their band. They are serious in their approach, and have one new release every year. Moreover, they have followed the steps of fellows Buried Inside and toured intensively the last years. Live, Alaskan delivers a amazing performance and the live set lives to its promises. While I agree that Alaskan might not be 100% original, I didn’t expect an experimental band either. The band knows how to compose songs that “feels” dark and heavy, and they can easily compare with other bands like Amen Ra, Neurosis, Fall Of Efrafa... So listen to your friend: Alaskan is without a doubt worth to check out." - Timo, Alerta Antifascista
